I have been reading (or listening to the audiobooks of) this author for a long time. I have always enjoyed the historical touches and mysteries. However, lately it seems he is trying to fill pages with inane and superfluous details. Truly, this book could have been a quarter of its current length and still been enjoyable—without the lengthy, pedantic descriptions of unrelated things or the feelings of characters that ultimately amounted to nothing in particular.
