Coexisting but conflicting needs create self-sabotaging behaviors. This is why we resist efforts to change, often until they feel completely futile. But by extracting crucial insight from our most damaging habits, building emotional intelligence by better understanding our brains and bodies, releasing past experiences at a cellular level, and learning to act as our highest potential future selves, we can step out of our own way and into our potential.

For centuries, the mountain has been used as a metaphor for the big challenges we face, especially ones that seem impossible to overcome. To scale our mountains, we actually have to do the deep internal work of excavating trauma, building resilience, and adjusting how we show up for the climb. In the end, it is not the mountain we master, but ourselves.

One of the best books I ever read

If you are new to personal development books, this book is a good place to start. But I would’ve liked more specific examples and story telling to anchor the ideas. It felt like one long speech with lofty principles. I need examples.

Good intro to self development

I love all of the variety of strategies Breanna suggests. I did realize that so much of this is like a compendium of repackaged advice from other writers, but without many opportunities for actual practice. I do wish she had a workbook along with this.

Great platitudes, very Eckhart Tolle-and Steven Covey-esque.

Good information

I have read many motivational books and this is by far one of the best for igniting true change. I loved the science and evidence that supported the advice and explanations. Highly recommend.

"we build our own cages and then we stay in them....even though they are not locked"

the book offered useful insight in understanding emotions and provided some actionable suggestions to grow. the age old " deep down we know what we need to do. so do it. it's hard. do it anyways and you'll feel and be better"

Useful Read if your feeling stuck
