Publisher's Summary

In this critical time, we need to balance the polarizing tendencies of power-based and rights-based approaches to peace and conflict with the integrative nature of human needs-based and spiritual approaches-to bring people together based on the common ground they share rather than in a struggle over who is right and wrong. This session explores some ways of doing this, including through peace-building among different stakeholders in a conflict and through collective meditation or prayer. Dr. Davies reviews scientific evidence of the effectiveness of these approaches around the world.

More than 30 world-renowned speakers joined the Himalayan Institute in Honesdale, Pennsylvania for the Sacred Link Freedom From Fear conference. Topics ranging from personal growth to world affairs to sustainable ecology were presented and recorded live. This lecture is among those offered.

Co-Director of the Partners in Conflict and the Partners in Peacebuilding projects at the Center for International Development and Conflict Management at the University of Maryland, Dr. John Davies is an internationally recognized expert in conflict management and prevention.

Deep Wisdom Here

This is a talk and not a read. Still, the wisdom discussed here is timeless. The clarity offered in terms of paradigms of consciousness and how they relate to conflict transformation and peacemaking is invaluable.

Unfortunately, there were many references to documents and slides that listeners obviously cannot see. It would have been helpful to include a pdf with the lecture because the references were illustrative and could have significantly enhanced the information being conveyed. Even a website link would have been appreciated.

The last 3-4 minutes of the talk is a meditation and there are several minutes of Q & A as well. So the speech itself is under an hour.

Nevertheless, I'm glad I bought the lecture as the insights were incredibly meaningful to me. It certainly wet my appetite for a more fleshed out discussion of the topic.
