Riveting!

An excellent sequel, Anthony. Can’t wait for the next one. An ingenious story, very well narrated by Rory. I found the caving part was chilling. While I thought I had my prime suspects nailed down early, the red herrings led me to frequently question my deductions.

A Riveting Sequel

Anthony Horowitz delivers another masterful mystery with "The Sentence Is Death," the thrilling sequel to his acclaimed novel "The Word Is Murder." Once again, Horowitz showcases his exceptional storytelling skills, creating a gripping narrative that seamlessly blends elements of crime, intrigue, and clever wit.

The novel reintroduces readers to the enigmatic detective, Daniel Hawthorne, whose sharp mind and unconventional methods make him an intriguing character from the outset. Horowitz's ability to breathe life into his characters is nothing short of remarkable, and Hawthorne's complex personality adds depth to the story. As the narrator, Horowitz continues to play a vital role in the plot, offering readers a unique perspective that enhances the overall reading experience.

One of the standout features of "The Sentence Is Death" is its ingenious plot. Horowitz weaves a web of mystery that is as intricate as it is unpredictable. The novel effortlessly keeps readers on the edge of their seats, as the investigation unfolds with unexpected twists and turns. The author's ability to seamlessly integrate real-life events into the narrative further blurs the lines between fiction and reality, adding an extra layer of intrigue.

Horowitz's writing remains both accessible and engaging, making it easy for readers to immerse themselves in the story. The dialogue is sharp, and the pacing is spot-on, ensuring that the suspense builds steadily throughout the novel. The humor, a signature element of Horowitz's style, is present in abundance, providing moments of levity that complement the darker undertones of the mystery.

The supporting cast of characters in "The Sentence Is Death" is equally well-developed, each playing a crucial role in the unfolding drama. The chemistry between Hawthorne and the author deepens, offering readers a dynamic and entertaining partnership that enhances the narrative.

In conclusion, "The Sentence Is Death" is a triumphant continuation of Anthony Horowitz's foray into the world of literary mysteries. With its compelling characters, clever plot twists, and a perfect blend of humor and suspense, this novel is a testament to the author's storytelling prowess. Fans of detective fiction and those who enjoyed the first installment will find themselves thoroughly engrossed in this captivating sequel. Anthony Horowitz once again proves why he is a standout figure in the genre, leaving readers eagerly anticipating his next literary endeavor.

Loved it

Love this series by Anthony Horowitz, his self deprecating humour and clever twists and turns of the plot make it a delightful listen. Kinnear is the perfect narrator

Narrator used horrible voice for some characters

(I rarely leave negative reviews for narrators. but...)
I haven't finished the book. the story is interesting enough to make me want to finish. But I can't believe the production team was okay with the voice choice for some of the main characters. Sure, they may not be the most likable characters, but the narration voices for them are like nails on chalkboard, almost unbearable.
I guess it speaks for the story-line that I'm willing to suffer through, and finish the book.

Solid sequel

Although I don't know why the narrator decided to give one female character an almost 'Monty Python-ese' voice...

Great story - but I didn’t think the narrator was much good

Story is good - very interesting, lots of red herrings and interesting characters.
But - the narrator does a completely awful job on the female voices. So bad it’s hard to hear the dialogue as it’s meant to be.
If the story line was any weaker I would have quit listening

No Bad.

Well written generally but seemed overly contrived and predictable. The relationship between the Narrator and Hawthorne is much more interesting than the thin mystery.
