Before the day has barely begun, she already suspects she's not cut out to be a cop. Publisher's Summary
Atlanta, Georgia. Present day. A young woman is brutally attacked and left for dead. The police investigate but the trail goes cold.
Until a chance assignment takes GBI investigator Will Trent to the state penitentiary, and to a prisoner who says he recognizes the MO. The attack looks identical to the one he was accused of eight years earlier. The prisoner’s always insisted that he was innocent, and now he’s sure he has proof. The killer is still out there.
As Will digs into both crimes, it becomes clear that he must solve the original case in order to reach the truth. Yet nearly a decade has passed - time for memories to fade, witnesses to vanish, evidence to disappear. And now he needs medical examiner Sara Linton to help him hunt down a ruthless murderer. But when the past and present collide, everything Will values is at stake....

Gripping.
I was swept up into the story in spite of my problem establishing that there were two time lines and I could have done with a lot less yelling. I thought the authors choice of subject and her way of presenting the horrific details of the crimes were authentic in detail and police procedure. the victims could have been any one I know. Choosing a campus for the location was also realistic as it is often the first time young women are alone and so completely vulnerable.

love/sad
love that i got to listen to Kathleen Early narrate this great book by Karin Slaughter!!
sad that its over!
my first Slaughter book was The Good Daughter, which i enjoyed and fell in love with the narration. so i looked for more of her books... started with the Wil Trent series. fell in love with the characters. then, while waiting for this book to come out i listened to the Grant County series. of course i wish i had listened to it it first but i'm glad i did listen to it so i knew the complete back story of Jeffrey and Sara... oh and ugh, Lena!
...let the Kathleen/Karin detox begin.

One of my favorite series (and author)!!!!
Wow! This is some book. This is the 10th book in the Will Trent series. If you’ve never picked up anything in this series you can start here as each one can be listened to as a stand alone. If you find yourself unable to put the book down I would suggest going back and listening to the Grant County series followed by the Will Trent series. There are continuous relationships from one to the next.
The publisher’s summary gives more than enough information so I won’t restate the basic plot. What comes after is a very well written, well thought out procedural that takes progressed through a series of events that kept me interested and entertained through out. From a single murder that a man had been convicted years earlier comes a long line of missing and murdered women. There’s a serial killer on the loose and he’s been at it for years.
This book has a steady pace that builds momentum the closer you get to the end. The characters are fleshed out and believable.
Kathleen Early does a superb job narrating.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Brought Back Dallas’ JR
Author has a great fan base and between her publisher and fans, WE have gotten not only more Will, but now Jeffery is BACK in this story!! The author in the forward and at the close of this book, outlines what she has done to bridge the two Will Trent and Grant County series, and she warns do not cheat to find out! I do use the 1.2 speed to match the action with Faith, Amanda, and Sarah. Gads, I love the sarcastic volley ball dialogue from Faith and Amanda. It brings some levity into the dark subject of women’s abuse and the sick people who do it. Beware if you have a weak stomach. However, Ms Early has a way of de-emphasizing the gruesome horrific deeds done by psychopaths and criminals with her narration.
The publisher’s summery is spot on so no need to add to it. There is a great Amazon review of the book Galley for story details If YOU have to know before buying. However, most of us fans of narrator Kathleen Early and this author do not need to know story details as we like the journey of the tale and the eventual mystery unfolding.
This story is very cleverly done by the author to bring us more entertainment of Will and now the very missed Jeffery character.

My favorite author of police procedurals!
I've been reading novels by Karin Slaughter for almost 20 years and she is yet to disappoint. THE SILENT WIFE is Book 10 in her Will Trent series. The novel could also be considered part of her Grant County series because it brings in Lena Adams and Jeffrey Tolliver from that series. For those familiar with both series Sara Linton is the unnamed protagonist or co-protagonist of both.
I do not plan to write a review of The Silent Wife but do read Audible listener Shelley's review. All of Karin Slaughter's novels are gritty by this one is more so than any of the others. For someone like me who is the father of daughters and grandfather of granddaughters parts of the novel are difficult to listen to because of the descriptions of the gore.
Kathleen Early does a wonderful job of narration.

Same Ole Story
This book was about 16 hours too long. If you have read any Will Trent/Grant County books, it’s very predictable. I even had to verify that this wasn’t a re-release because the ending was so familiar. The Formula: Once again, Sara is in distress and danger, some women are horrendously brutalized, Amanda and Faith are mean and sarcastic, but all the world still revolves around Sara. This should not be called a Will Trent book, but a Sara Linton book. And I have had enough.

Disappointing
Warning: THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS
I love Karin Slaughter and I’d been waiting forever for this book, so I was sooooo disappointed with this story. The characters have changed in such unlikeable ways it sucks. Faith is whiny and annoying and seems to dislike any other woman that isn’t Sarah. Sarah’s obsession with hating Lena has gotten old too. Even Lena who could’ve been set up as a redeemable character who I actually liked was utterly unlikeable in this. I am sad because these character changes really made me dislike the book and I don’t know if I will continue reading her books. I don’t really care for Will and Sarah acting like children, so I’m sorry but I’m done with this series.

Very Unclear and Disorganized
In an audiobook, don't introduce dozens of names repeatedly, especially when many of them don't matter. I got completely confused. Did Sarah have two ex-husbands, one of whom died?
Who are all these other people? All the pointless chattiness made this worse. If you ever had a girlfriend who told you long, rambling, and confusing stories full of people you don't know, this book is for you.

This book is not a Thriller or a Mystery. It’s an incessant gab fest. It’s Advertised as a Will Trent novel but he is just an adjunct to the story. I wanted to quit reading but kept thinking there was a reason to continue. It never happened.
