À propos de cet audio

#1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson expands his Cosmere universe shared by The Stormlight Archive and Mistborn with a new standalone novel for everyone who loved The Princess Bride. Narrated by Michael Kramer.

The only life Tress has known on her island home in an emerald-green ocean has been a simple one, with the simple pleasures of collecting cups brought by sailors from faraway lands and listening to stories told by her friend Charlie. But when his father takes him on a voyage to find a bride and disaster strikes, Tress must stow away on a ship and seek the Sorceress of the deadly Midnight Sea. Amid the spore oceans where pirates abound, can Tress leave her simple life behind and make her own place sailing a sea where a single drop of water can mean instant death?

Note from Brandon:

I started writing this in secret, as a novel just for my wife. She urged me to share it with the world—and alongside three other secret novels, with the support of readers worldwide it grew into the biggest Kickstarter campaign of all time. I’m excited to present this first book to you at last: a different type of Brandon Sanderson story, one I wrote when there were no time constraints, no expectations, and no limits on my imagination. Come be part of the magic.

This was a fun story. Some surprises, lots of fun characters, blending in from other stories. I’m not fully aware of all the Cosmere, so I would have gotten more out of the experience otherwise. It’s a bit like watching MCU Brave New World without having seen the tv show. Still good. Solid narration.

Though the plot was not the best, any flaws are overshadowed by the narrator’s voice, insight, and commentary. By far the most fun I have had with a Sanderson book.

A fun listen with a great narrative voice.

Always relish the opportunity to learn more about the 'verses, and though this entry can be enjoyed by anyone, younger audiences, like teenagers would probably benefit more from its subject matter. Great story nonetheless.

Very Enjoyable entry, better suited for younger audiences

I loved the narrator and his voices. The story was magical and had some twists and turns I didn't expect but loved. What a imagination of this world.

incredible story

I loved everything. Poor Hoid, didn’t deserve to be a dried fish. I’m just trying to fill the word count to be honest i genuinely have nothing bad to say about this book.

Whimsy. I love the spore stuff! Also love me a pirate type thing.

It was slightly predictable but that didn’t bother me in the slightest. I really enjoyed this story. If you’ve read Sanderson you know to expect a twist or two along the way.

Tress is a lovable heroine. I am constantly amazed at the worlds in this universe Sanderson has created. The story was light hearted and fun but not without some weight and tense moments. A really fun listen. I’m going right now to start another one of the secret project books. Oh! Something to know if you’ve read other Sanderson works. The pacing is faster given that it’s a stand alone novel. There isn’t as much time devoted to world developing as there is in something like The Stormlight books. It works well in this format.

We Love a self aware hero

I loved falling into the world, it scared the hell outta me. I would never even set foot off the planet love of my life or not. Thankfully she does, and the story after, is highly entertaining.

Sigh, unsurprisingly it's amazing.

a fine, if a bit light, addition to the cosmere. this is a fun book with lots of sandersons fun writing and characters. a nice palette cleanser between stormlight archives or misborn books.

a fun fairytale-ish story

I started reading Brandon Sanderson in the Stormlight archives. I honestly found it a bit overwelming in the beginning with his new structure of the universe. THIS book though offers a way smoother initiation to the cosmere, with amazing characters, storyline and unexpected resolution. It leaves you wanting more, with enough understsnding of the rules of the cosmere to feel more secure while reading his other amazing books. Tress is exceptionnally unexceptionnal, in a way that makes her become exceptionnal. I highly recommend it!

I should have entered the cosmere through this book

This was truly delightful. A love letter to story lovers, clever and quaint like a satisfying fairytale. Sanderson describes this as a riff on The Princess Bride, but if Buttercup was the hero, and that’s exactly what it is. I also love the hints at the Cosmere. Bravo!

A major delight
