Publisher's Summary

For both Zane and Darby, their small town roots hold a terrible secret. Now, decades later, they've come together to build a new life. But will the past set them free or pull them under?

Zane Bigelow grew up in a beautiful, perfectly kept house in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Strangers and even Zane’s own aunt across the lake see his parents as a successful surgeon and his stylish wife, making appearances at their children’s ballet recitals and baseball games. Only Zane and his sister know the truth, until one brutal night finally reveals cracks in the facade, and Zane escapes for college without a thought of looking back....

Years later, Zane returns to his hometown determined to reconnect with the place and people that mean so much to him, despite the painful memories. As he resumes life in the colorful town, he meets a gifted landscape artist named Darby, who is on the run from ghosts of her own.

Together, they will have to teach each other what it means to face the past, and stand up for the ones they love.

Huge Nora Roberts fan

I love all of Nora’s romantic suspense books. Every time I think she can’t top her previous book, she manages to surprise me again! I cried at the beginning of this book for Zack and his sister. My heart went out to them and broke many times over. After that, I started cheering them on! This author manages to tug at your heart strings and make you want to know more and more about her characters in every book! As always, her characters were well rounded and could easily be related to by most anyone. You didn’t have to go through child abuse to feel the pain and the sorrow for Zack and his sister. I totally recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romantic suspense with a great ending.

An emotional book!

I cried through the first part, and was on the edge of my seat for the last. In between I enjoyed the people and the town.

My New Favorite Nora Roberts Book!!!

Under Currents is sooooooooo good! It sucks you in from chapter one. You become invested in the Bigelow family drama. You will definitely hate Graham and Eliza. The subject matter is intense but, enjoyable. It gives you a glimpse into domestic violence and how it affects the entire family; not just the victims. She also adds a little twist with the abuser but, I won’t tell you what that is. There are multiple characters in the book. Some you will love and some you will be giving the side eye. Just when you think the bad guys are gone, surprise surprise, she introduces a secondary villain. My only complaint is, once she introduced the secondary villain into the storyline, I was able to figure out who it was fairly quickly. So, there was no element of surprise once that person was revealed. Other than that, this book was awesome. It checked all of my boxes. I would definitely recommend it. Oh, and January LaVoy did an awesome job narrating! She does not disappoint.

Amazing

What an amazing book. I’m not the biggest fan of Nora Roberts but this book is amazing. I couldn’t but it down.
If there is one thing wrong with this book is that she tries to keep the Second person who is after them a secret but we already knew who it is.

Worth the Wait!

I have been so upset that Audible advertised this book for months! It was very hard knowing it was coming and having to wait on it. But as always, Nora wrote a great book that was well worth waiting for. I cried the whole first part of the book because of what those children had to go through. There was also laughter, love, caring, mystery, anticipation of what was to come. Wonderful book as usual Nora. Thanks. Can't wait for the next one.

Great!

I almost sent this book back but glad I didn't. Don't want to ruin it for others but the first half is very dark and I could barely listen, but the second half is really good. I hope others find this as interesting as I did and appreciate the ending. Nora Roberts is such a incredible author and the narrator January LaVoy did a wonderful job. Thank you for hours of great listening.

Fantastic

I loved this story, but I have to admit some of the abuse scenes got to me. They may be difficult for some readers. Darby and Zane are both very likable characters, as are several of the quirky secondary characters. I did find the end somewhat predictable, as it followed Nora Roberts’ “formula”, however there were several surprises and I felt like she pulled it all together well. I’m kind of disappointed it’s over already.

classic Roberts

Under Currents is a classic Nora Roberts story, so if you like this author, you’ll like this story.
As I’ve followed her since her start in Harlequin, I’m a little jaded. This is solid, but not one of her top tier books. It didn’t grab me and yank me into the story. But yes, these characters are people you wish were your friends and family. Roberts writes them with a warmth that so many authors just can’t match.
LaVoy does a good job of narration; especially with character differentiation and emotion.

Nora Hit It Out Of The Park!

I had pre-ordered this book just because it was the next release. After it showed up in my library, I went back online remind myself what it was about and while on line, happened to read some of the reviews. Some were less than complimentary and complained about the lengthy writing about the abuse suffered by the children. I really feel that background was an important part of learning who Zane, as well as all his family members, were and what they overcame on the way to who they became. I feel that Nora did a fantastic job in dealing with an uncomfortable subject. Many people who are uncomfortable with the subject of abuse are the same ones who say (or think) “Well, she or he must have done something to deserve it!” Well done, Nora, in writing on a subject that needs to be out in the open!
