Diviner Alex Verus and the Council that governs the magical community have never gotten along. Once again, Alex continues to be a complicated character with few allies and whose personal ethics are opposed to people who prefer far more red tape than he does. While it’s always great to see familiar faces, I was most excited to finally learn more about the tough and uncompromising Caldera.
The action remains fast paced, the scenarios inventive and original, and the world gradually expanding to feel immersive. As with each book, there are great scenes that call on emotion and make these characters feel more real. With the way this story ended, I’m already looking forward to the next book!
