Story
A company of Army Rangers is sent on an interstellar colony ship to secure a foothold on a dangerous, alien planet through violence of action. Leaving behind a warring Earth flung headfirst into a conflict of mutual assured destruction, the Rangers and the accompanying crew of first colonists are guided on a 40-year journey by an unprecedented artificial intelligence. But when they emerge from the frigid embrace of cryosleep, they awake to a nightmare, finding themselves greeted by the same ruthless enemy that brought about the ruin of Earth.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Story
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Series keeps getting better
I love Brodie. He is my spirit robot.
Speaking of Robots, how many of those do they have? How many can they make? Do you have to be dead or artificial to inhabit one? That could solve the HR problem.
Favorite 80's action hero:
Michael J Fox
Kidding!
Take Arnold and Sylvester out and its Kurt Russell.

Get to the choppa ... err ... Predator!
Brodie grows on you ,,, with the overall story having a Sunday Matinee feel: the good guys are having to be constantly on the move to deal with problems, the sheriff or the cavalry always riding to rescue. Definitely entertaining.
My only disappointment is the "Just In Time" manner additional "important" characters are minted 5 minutes before their lives are at risk or they become the pivot point of the story. A little more time in the background, mentioned and integrated would feel better.
But I like this series, like a chewy bubble gum for the brain, something different from the real world.
Just curious Jason, besides the few Marines you tuck into your universes ... does everything need to be solved by Rangers and only Rangers ?
Favorite action movie ? It would be the Christmas Classic : Die Hard.
But for fun, nothing beats the off-kilter comic book pulp : The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
I hope you get to put the first Christmas on Amir

MOAR!!! GIVE ME MORE YOU BASTARDS!
*Ahem* Excuse me, I'll have to pull myself together for this review
The book is great - The unapologetically pro-American humor and patriotism from Brodie is so well done and unique that it'll keep you hooked. The writing (combined with narration) made some parts of the book feel like a horror story which is unique in the action/adventure genre, Moreover, the book adds some philosophical thought experiments that I am interested in hearing them continue. As for the narrator, R.C. Bray does a great job with the voice work, particularly with Brodie. Just to keep this review legit; I feel like the author was limiting his potential by teasing the "bigger picture" story arc, Specifically, I feel like the booked teased the greater story arc too much when it should have divulged more. It's a small complaint, and one driven due to my own engrossment into the story. The author has an extremely good touch on society and ideological social positions. .
I've deployed overseas (Afghanistan) and this guy nails the sub-cultural humor. I recommend picking it up and checking it out. If you're a fan of Expeditionary Force then you'll like this series. And no, it isn't a clone of the aforementioned book.
Also, it was asked in prologue. Foundational action movies for me were "They Live" / "Aliens (aka. Alien 2)" / "Predator" / "Starship Troopers" / "Platoon"

The best parts of cheesy 80s action and sxi-fi
I really dig this series. Rangers in space, cool. Half crazy combat Droid obsessed with 80s action, really cool. Add in a bunch of different comunist enemies and it just becomes awesome. Rc Bray kills it as always.
And to answer the authors question: in the 80s my favorite action star was Stalone in the Rambo films. In the 90s it was Arnold for Terminator 2.

Fantastic!
Having a great time listening to these.
The 80s and 90s action movie references and one liners are great in their delivery.
I grew up in the 90's, watching every Schwarzenegger, Van Damn, Stallone, Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Mel Gibson, Wesly Snipes, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis (Before he started calling it in) and other action movies I could get my hands on.
I feel right at home here. Keep it up!

Totally binged the entire book in one listen!!
This week be the first review I've actually written. I always give stars, but just never take the time to write a review. I feel like I have to say though, that I am beyond in love with everything to do with this universe that's been created and I just made up a bunch of reasons to stay in the garage, so that I could listen to the entire thing, including the author's note, the interview at the end, the credits, and listened to the gag real twice lol. Not only that, but I have no doubt that if book 3 were available, I would 100% already be listening to it right now too!
Oh, and side note, there are so many throw away lines and movie quotes that made me realize just how many movies I have memorized from when I was a kid, and I'm not sure if I'm proud of slightly ashamed that I'm fairly certain I caught every single one and knew exactly what movie was being referenced! I have to say I laughed the hardest at the Tinker quote from Road House!! that has always been my favorite line from that movie and I thought it was just me that will forever have it seared into my mind, but apparently Brody thought it was a great one too lol! Thank you all for bringing such an entertaining and satisfying story to life, and R.C. Bray is an absolute mad genius! What a perfect collaboration!! Can not wait for 3!!!

Great sequel
The second Wayward Galaxy was even better than anticipated. The evolution of the characters and the story line is compelling and holds your interest with every page read. R.C.Bray was his usual brilliant self, bringing the characters, and the alien planet’s flora and fauna to life as if you were there yourself. As per your request Jason, my favorite action stars from the eighties were Kurt Russell, Escape From New York, The Thing, Big Trouble In Little China, and Arnold, his whole catalog. I very much look forward to the third installment of Wayward Galaxy, and could not recommend it any higher to anyone who hasn’t listened to either book yet.

Difficult to follow battle sequences
First, I'm a huge fan of the first audio book. This second book in the series had great moments and I laughed out loud several times!
I had difficulty following what the heck was going on in the battle scenes though. A bunch of new characters were suddenly introduced and I couldn't keep track of what the heck was going on at times. I had to rewind several times to relisten. The main problem I had was remembering what the current environment was like where the characters were. As the story jumped from scene to scene, it wasn't very well described what the situation was like. Normally, I feel like I can picture events in my head, but the lack of descriptive information made that difficult in many cases.
Also, why chase down an entangled partical when you don't know where the matched entangled particle is?????

Great story, but...
When i recently found the first installment in the Wayward Galaxy series i was ecstatic. The plot sounded right up my alley and the reviews boasted of its greatness like I've only seen done to a handful of other books (all of which I loved BTW). Sure enough it didnt disappoint, I loved it. Now coming to the matter at hand... This second book had all the elements of the first that i loved (which ill get to in a second) but seemed to lose a little of the clarity as far as differentiating new characters being introduced and lacking a more detailed description of what's happening to who, especially during the more action packed scenes or during battles and the like. There were 2 new characters that i was completely unaware of existing until a scene where i guess their hunting or tracking something and i skipped back an hour or more several times to see if i was missing something or some explanation as to where they came from or who they were or why their showing up now or at least SOME kina back story. Its also confusing moving so quickly through action sequences and when perspectives (or main characters of focus) switch so frequently its hard to keep things straight, i had to skipp back so many times just to be able to follow the story in some parts. Id appreciate something to make us readers/listeners aware of it so it doesn't all kind of run together. I know R.C. Bray is already set in concrete here and he does a wonderful job dont get me wrong but some of my faves are Stephen Pacy and Ray Porter because it's inhuman how many voices those men can do and each characters voice seems to be personally chosen and worked at and without the text in front of you, having a specified voice for each character helps stave off confusion. All that being said, those minor details didnt detract too much from the book as a whole. The plot was still very engaging, characters lovable (especially Brody). I appreciate how much research obviously went into making things as close to reality as possible as to not detract from the illusion. It really grabs the attention and keeps hold all the way until the final word. I would've liked to see the relationship between Le'Anna and Jason develop a little bit more but i guess thats just the romantic in me. TBH certain parts of the story seemed a little rushed but thats not that big of a deal because they rushed into other entertaining arc's and twist's, but my hope is that their revisited in the next installment of the series
All said and done I give book two a resounding 4 stars. Very entertaining and enjoyable listen but not quite all 5 due to clarity issues
