Publisher's Summary

Watch Silo, the new Apple TV+ sci-fi series starring Rebecca Ferguson and Tim Robbins, starting May 5th, 2023!

The first book in the acclaimed, New York Times bestselling trilogy, Wool is the story of mankind clawing for survival.

The world outside has grown toxic, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. The remnants of humanity live underground in a single silo. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are given the very thing they want: they are allowed to go outside.

After the previous sheriff leaves the silo in a terrifying ritual, Juliette, a mechanic from the down deep, is suddenly and inexplicably promoted to the head of law enforcement. With newfound power and with little regard for the customs she is supposed to abide, Juliette uncovers hints of a sinister conspiracy. Tugging this thread may uncover the truth—or it could kill every last human alive.

In-depth and interesting all the way through

The authors knowledge of the mechanical components and functions of the equipment in the story was excellent. I love the descriptive writing style and captivating character development.

Compelling, exciting, a great mystery! Read the Sand series which was also excellent if you want more. Tv series slightly different but no less compelling. Excited to read more by Hugh.

Awesome

Awesome, not the most original basic concept,( vertical, stationary, underground Snowpiercer essentially) but the characters and mysteries are SO CAPTIVATING.

Excellent story but takes patience

The ending and buildup to the ending was brilliant. Very unique story line and concept. I will be down loading the next book immediately. I also started the TV series when I finished this very nicely done. Thank you!

Like climbing the great starwell

Reading this book is like ascending from the depths of a deep silo with no floor nunberings. just when you think you're approaching the top, you discover there is still so much further up to climb before you'll be near the surface of the truth.

Narrator is far superior to the original audio book..

I got and listen to the original version of this book around 10 years ago. While the story was good the main complaint was the lady who narrated it. It was so bad that a couple of years later they hired another woman to redo it and it still was hard to listen to. (Please note I did love the 2nd books original narration by TGR.)I have listened one of Edoardo narrated books in the past. I think it was a fictional WW2 holocaust story and it was fantastic. I’ve listened to the first couple of hours to this book and it’s a night and day difference in quality. The Story it self is very good and that why it’s getting it own Apple TV series.

THIS is a strong female character

This isn’t about some Marry Sue character that can beat up 5 Navy Seals bare handed and still make it to her nail appointment on time. This is a good story with a good portrayal of a men and women dealing with a unique situation. The bad guys are almost understandable, and the good guys are morally gray sometimes. Great Sci-Fi.

Boring

I have only made it to chapter 17. I don’t think I can finish it. Characters are poorly developed. Story,so far, is just dull. I had high hopes. Maybe too high. I may slough through the rest but so far it’s a struggle.

Read before watching the show!

So glad I got this before the show dropped. The show looks like it'll be amazing, but as they always say, the book is always better!

Some good ideas but roughly written.

What I appreciate most about this story is that it early on acknowledges that it is a Sci fi trope and doesn't try to hide it.

After a solid beginning of the story, everything grinds to a halt and there is a lot of chapters that really doesn't add anything to the story.

The end comes abruptly and not at all satisfying. The love story makes no sense either, it is hard to take that part seriously.

Even though it was somewhat painful to get to the end of this book, I will give the sequel a chance because I think the world and ideas have potential, hopefully the author gets better the more he writes and practices.

Amazing and captivating

What a great book. I really loved listening to it and will definitely continue in the series.
I listed to it in a few days and put my earphones it anytime a could. But the best experience was lying down and getting fully immersed with closed eyes! Go for it!
