My name is James, but my mom’s the only person that can call me that. To everyone else, I’m JD — a struggling artist, working my fingers to the bone for my shot with one of the big comic book companies.
Oh, and I work nights, managing a dive called Judson’s Bar and Grill. I know: the dream life. Things were boring, disappointing, even. Until one fateful night when everything changed.
What happened first? An odd woman showed up in a booth while I was trying to close up for the night – rude, but on its own, not so weird. She was dressed in a kimono and had a sword in her lap; that part was a little strange.
What happened next? It turns out she’s a mistress at a magical academy, and she has been looking for me...(please pick up on my sarcasm here). Except then she proved it, and with just a few violent swings of her very real sword, she ensured that I didn’t have a job anymore. So, I more or less had to follow her into a scary, glowing portal.
Where did it take me? A surreal place called Zenith Academy, and a life I’d only ever dreamt of; a place I’ll learn how to cultivate mana and wield magic-like powers. And that is just the beginning. The tower imbues cultivators with visual prompts and game-like stats, making my new life feel like something straight out of a choose your own adventure novel. But it’s not all for nothing.
Evidently, they’ve been fighting a war for thousands of years, and I’ve just been drafted.

standard harem litRPG but the voice actors bring the characters to life as always. And I'm a long for the ride. when's the next one?

I get it it's an erotic harem novel (didn't realize that at first lol) but maybe I've just aged myself out of this type of thing. A guy who does nothing and just gets
a bunch of girls and gets laid just takes me out of it.
I think I actually would enjoy the story and novel if 2H of it wasn't sex scenes. I always enjoyed the passionate beginning and the wakeup the morning after instead of going into graphic detail. maybe I'm just a prude.
4 stars because at least there's a plot and the voice actors tried. but personally it's probably a 2.5-3*.

We see JD a regular nerdy guy who worked as a bartender to pay the bills but was a struggling artist at heart, who just happened to be plucked from obscurity by a remarkablely dressed fierce sword wielding woman with a radiant aura of what one could only assume a godess & forced to embark on a new path, into the unknown of a new world & the mysterious Zenith Academy. All while growing & cultivating bonds and friendships along the way!
For me this goes on the list of stories I wish I could enjoy for the first time again.
I hope you've enjoyed my short story.. I really like the world 😀

The main character has an interesting growth. He is intelligent and resourceful. He finds himself in an other world where his human values are at odds with how this new cruel world works. He learns to live in this cruel world but keeps trying to do the right thing nevertheless.
The other characters (girls) are all interesting and at the beginning, his first girl is in charge because he doesn’t know anything about his new world.
The are few adult scenes and the descriptions aren’t extremely detailed.
I loved the story and liked the narrator. The one thing that irritated me was the narration tendancy to add a « k » sound a the end of all words ending in « -ing » or « -ong ». So he would say : strongk, ringk, etc. There are enough of those words in this book to annoy me. It was not enough to stop me from listening to the end, but just an annoyance.
