  • Case study for decarbonizing brownfield manufacturing operations
    Dec 8 2023

A North American-based Siemens plant that manufactures electrical distribution and control products was targeted for decarbonization as part of the Siemens Net Zero Operation by 2030 initiative. This podcast describes how the plant migrated from heavy reliance on natural gas, energy-intensive HVAC, and high-consumption component painting processes, to clean power sourcing, onsite generation, and aggressive energy efficiency measures. By focusing on the four decarbonization levers of consumption reduction, advanced electrification, solar generation, and clean energy the plant successfully lowered natural gas usage by 90% while reducing net carbon emissions by 90%.

At Siemens, we embed sustainability best practices across our business activities, investment decisions, and corporate governance. We invest in extensive workforce training (€280 million in professional continuing education in fiscal 2022) and high sustainability technologies (€650 million by 2030) to lower our carbon emissions. In this podcast, we share what we have learned about sustainability best practices along our journey to Net Zero.
