  • A Matter of Health or Illness- Strength Training
    May 2 2024

Join me for an empowering episode where I debunk the myth that strength training is just for the gym buffs or the younger crowd. Today, I’m spotlighting why strength training is an absolute game-changer for fabulous women over 55.

We'll kick things off by delving into the startling fact that only 20% of women over 60 are giving their muscles the TLC they deserve. That's right—80% of us are missing out on the chance to keep our bodies strong and vibrant as we age. But fear not; I’m here to arm you with some seriously empowering insights.

Discover why muscle loss (sarcopenia) isn't just a distant concern—it's a real issue that starts as early as our 30s. But armed with knowledge, we can tackle it head-on and reclaim our strength.

I also explore the myriad benefits of strength training beyond just toning those bingo wings. From weight loss and improved metabolism to reduced inflammation and stronger bones, the perks are endless. Plus, who wouldn't want to lower their risk of taking a tumble?

Addressing the elephant in the room, we'll tackle common reservations about strength training. Spoiler alert: it's all about shifting our mindset and embracing strength as an act of self-care.

And let's not forget about the real health villain—insulin resistance. But fear not, because strength training is our superhero. By making our cells more sensitive to insulin, it helps us better control blood sugar and keep those pesky pounds at bay.

So, it's time to unleash your inner Wonder Woman and embrace the strength within. Whether lifting weights, doing squats, or busting out some push-ups, every rep brings you one step closer to a healthier, happier you. So grab those dumbbells and show them who's boss! And if you're unsure where to start, don't hesitate to reach out to a fitness professional or join a group class. We've got this!

  • Celebrating Your Brain's Vitality & Wisdom
    Apr 18 2024

Is your forgetfulness causing you embarrassment?

Are you noticing it takes much longer to figure things out in your head

Maybe you worry about Dementia or Alzheimers.

In this episode of No Nonsense Aging, I explore what's considered normal and what cognitive changes might signal a cause for concern.

There is a recognition that there are many things we can do to mitigate and even reverse cognitive changes, empowering women to lead vibrant lives.

It should be acknowledged also that with age comes wisdom, enriching cognitive processes and enhancing emotional intelligence.

To finish up I share a poignant poem I wrote reflecting on the journey of a beloved aunt battling Alzheimer's, a testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit in the face of so much suffering.
