When Mahara goes missing, her older sister sets out on a quest to find her—one that takes her into the dangerous world of spirits. With her sister back at her side, Cora discovers that their infiltration into Empira'an turned the many eyes of the Capital in their direction. With only a primitive grasp of her powers and unsure how to heal the Affliction, she sets out on a journey to find other fungus spirits, dragging Gillean, Mahara, and True along for the ride. Pursued by bounty hunters and at odds with her friends, Cora learns that trust is a tenuous thing, especially when navigating a world and relationships she doesn't truly understand.
