When They Came

I was never afraid of monsters—at least, not until They came: the visitors from outer space. Six years later, at the age of seventeen, I'm just about to graduate from school and declare my career of choice. The Midnight Guard—who protect our community from the vicious things that lie outside our walls—calls to me, and a shortage of applicants instantly lands me a spot in their ranks. But when I am bitten by an alien on a supply run, I begin to dream of things not of this world—and will soon find that my life is about to change forever.

I never expected to be abducted. But here I am, standing on board their ship, facing them down for the first time in my life, seeing the true face of the Earth’s invaders from another world. My task is simple: to act as Earth’s emissary and negotiate peace. But it is far more complicated than it seems. I know nothing of politics, and even little of persuasion, but I have no choice. I must do this to keep my friends, and my world, safe. I cannot afford to fail humanity.

After attempting to negotiate peace only to be betrayed by the one woman who promised me everything, Asha, myself, and Commander Dubois’ daughter Mary-Anne are on the run. With nowhere to go but the outskirts of Austin, we flee to the wilds of Lago Vista, Texas in the hopes to find safety, but find only carnage in their wake. A full-scale assault on the planet Earth is beginning. Now in the middle of it all, we have only one choice: to join the revolution and fight for our planet’s safety.
