I started this series directly after the edge of darkness trilogy. I LOVED that the narrators came back for this book. I’m nitpicking but it irks me when authors name drop songs and singers. That happened a lot in these stories.

All audiobooks should learn by example, if series intertwine with each other the full casts of both should be in place

So happy the narrator changed from book 1. I found Joe Arden’s narration had too much weeping and evil laughter that didn’t match Malachi. This one was perfect. Happy that part 1 of book2 included a retelling for that reason. Liked this series more than EOD. Hope there are more books to come set in the same world.

I think this book could’ve done without the recap of book one but just from Malachi’s POV, but I don’t think it took anything away from the story. There is a bit of a dark story to it, and it sets up a few other books that will be in this universe. I do think our characters had some decent growth and came out better at the end. I really like their dad; he ended up being amazing in this book.

There were also some cameos from the Edge of Darkness trilogy, and I was LIVING for that! I love that series and those characters so much.

I took this book at face value. I enjoyed being able to see the events unfold from the first book from Malachi's point of view and also have a continuation and ending.

The change in the narrator for Malachi ended up working. While Joe Arden did an amazing job with Little Stranger presenting Malachi's unhinged side. It worked beautifully during the one later scene (I'm not spoiling it) of that novel.

This story, with Grayson Owens narriating Malachi, worked well in the sense that now we are seeing events unfold from Malachi's point of view. He is not so much as unhinged as presented in the first novel, but someone who struggles with his past, diagnosis and the way he perceives the world. To me, both worked for different reasons.
