My enjoyment of this series has been off the charts. (All six books) I love Sullivan's writing style and for me it's been a breath of fresh air. His characters are living breathing souls that bring the words to life.

This last book wraps the story up perfectly. There are surprises and 'oh my word's moments. Tears, laughter, and moments I just had to nod my heard to truth a point at truth. Fiction is amazing like that. It contains hidden gems that help us understand reality.

Thank you to the author and his wife for working so hard to bring these amazing books into being. I have not read Sullivan's earlier work, but look forward to it. I am so excited to still have so many of his books to explore.

Sad for the end but...

Imagine you have heard of Star Wars, but have never seen the films. Now you have an interest, but watch the prequel trilogy. I’m breaking the analogy, so these films are MUCH better. But “Age of Empyre” is “Revenge of the Sith,” and it’s the end of the stand-alone series.

That was my feeling, at the end. But it was so good, I had to give it five stars across the board. I will enjoy reading other books by Michael J. Sullivan, even those in the Riyria series, but am resigned to missing the characters from this series.

The war ends and Nyphron becomes emperor as predicted by Malcolm.

There are some unexpected twists to this book, such as what happens to Bryn, and some tie ins that you will recognize if you read/listened to the Riyria books. Overall Tim Gerard Reynolds does another stellar job performing as narrator and cast. The book does not stand alone, and you have to have read the series for it to make any sense or to even consider it a good book. Where the Riyria books did stand as individual books, but together made a more epic story, this series is really just one story broken into parts. As the last chapter of that story, this book is well done.

I loved listening to Tim Reynolds narrate this series...such amazing writing with perfect narration. Thank you to Michael J Sullivan for writing this series and all those who helped him, especially his wife.

A great end to the series

I've read many series that had me enthralled throughout, only to completely flub the ending. This is not one of those series. It was a fun, sad, exciting, depressing, amusing, disheartening, and in two spots, absolutely gut-wrenching tale. What it never was, though, was boring. Michael's writing is the sort that doesn't try to make you feel dumber by using long or obscure words. I really appreciate this, because instead of using big words, Michael uses the _right_ words. That means he can spend more time telling the story, and less describing how lavish and delicious the feast set out on the table is. Most importantly, though, Michael sticks the landing. No half-step, no wobbling, just flip off the horse and then, BAM, both feet firmly planted back on the ground. If you've read the Riyria Revelations series, then the ending will bring a tear to your eye. If you haven't, you'll still come away feeling satisfied.

Read all of these books! Loved every one of them! I haven't come across a series that I could listen to in a long time and this one got me hooked and held me all the way through
