  • Sunday Yankee's Highlights
    Jul 6 2025
On the Yankee radar, we have the Sunday Lineup Shifts and Player Highlights. Benjamin Rice Gets Sunday Off. Catcher Benjamin Rice will sit out the Yankees' series finale against the Mets. After appearing in three of the last four matchups and posting a 4-for-15 line with two doubles and two RBI, Rice takes a breather on Sunday. Yankees news confirms Austin Wells gets the nod behind the plate, with Paul Goldschmidt at first base. Chisholm’s Shoulder Injury Lingers. Injury update: Jasrado Chisholm, sidelined for Sunday’s game, revealed he’s been managing a shoulder issue for about three weeks. The discomfort affects his throwing more than his swing, contributing to five errors in his last 10 appearances. Oswald Peraza will cover third base duties today. Austin Wells Breaks Homerless Streak. In Saturday’s contest, Austin Wells homer gave the Yankees a spark. The catcher launched a solo shot to right in the third inning, breaking a 15-game drought. Despite taking a foul tip to the mask earlier in the game, Wells stayed in and is back in action Sunday. Chisholm's 15th Homer Adds to Power Surge. Despite recent defensive struggles, Jasrado Chisholm stats show he's heating up offensively. His 387-foot solo homer Saturday was his fifth long ball in 10 games. The veteran now boasts 15 homers, 38 RBI, and 10 steals in just 59 games. Anthony Volpe Tries to Snap Cold Streak. Shortstop Anthony Volpe crushed his 10th home run of the season in Saturday’s loss. The 408-foot blast marked only his second homer in 27 games, but it could ignite a turnaround during this extended MLB scores slump. Carlos Rodón Tagged by Mets’ Offense. Carlos Rodón struggles continued on Saturday as he surrendered seven runs (six earned) over five innings. A grand slam in the first and a two-run homer in the fifth ballooned his ERA over his last six starts to 5.34. The lefty looks to bounce back against the Cubs next week.

🔥 Jasson Domínguez: Delivers Another Multi-Homer GameJasson Domínguez continued his offensive tear on Friday, going 2-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI, a walk, and a stolen base in the Yankees’ narrow 6-5 defeat to the Mets. It marked the second time this season the dynamic switch-hitter has launched multiple homers in a game. Domínguez also pushed his hitting streak to six games and is making a compelling case to secure a permanent spot in New York’s packed outfield. Over his last 13 appearances, he’s batting a blistering .426 (20-for-47), with two homers, three doubles, a triple, and four stolen bases.

⚾ Joel Kuhnel: Inks Deal with YankeesRight-hander Joel Kuhnel signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Friday, just one day after being released by the Phillies. The 30-year-old reliever recorded a 3.62 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 32.1 innings with Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season. Kuhnel will now serve as depth in the Yankees’ bullpen pipeline, ready to step in if needed later this year.

💣 Cody Bellinger: Keeps Streak Alive with 13th HomerCody Bellinger stayed hot at the plate Friday, belting his 13th home run of the season while going 1-for-4 in the loss to the Mets. The blast extended his hitting streak to 10 games, capping off an impressive turnaround after a slow start in April. Since May 4, the veteran outfielder has been on a tear, slashing .305/.357/.527 with 23 extra-base hits, 29 RBI, 30 runs, and six steals in his last 50 games.

👽 Jasson Domínguez: “The Martian” Returns to Spark the YankeesYankees outfield phenom Jasson Domínguez is making headlines once more. After a promising MLB debut in 2023—where he hit .258 with four homers, seven RBI, and a stolen base in just 33 plate appearances—Domínguez is back on the big-league radar. His most recent call-up last August was less electrifying (0-for-4 with three strikeouts), but the Yankees remain hopeful that their 21-year-old star-in-the-making can deliver a boost to a team chasing championship dreams.Nicknamed “The Martian” ("El Marciano") because of his seemingly otherworldly talents, Domínguez carries with him the hopes of a fanbase longing for a spark in the outfield. The nickname originated in the Dominican Republic when an impressed observer remarked that Domínguez’s abilities were “not of this world”—a moniker that stuck with him since signing with the Yankees at age 16.Like a baseball version of Kal-El landing in Smallville, Domínguez’s arrival is wrapped in mythos and high expectations. Comparisons to legends like Mike Trout, Bo Jackson, and Mickey Mantle have followed him for years, and now he faces the challenge of living up to that hype at the major league level.Even his first name carries Yankees lore. Domínguez’s father, a diehard fan of the Bronx Bombers, named him after former AL MVP Jason Giambi. At 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds, Domínguez may not match the towering presence of Aaron Judge, but he’s built like a compact powerhouse—broad, fast, and explosive. The Yankees originally signed him in 2019 with a $5 million bonus as an international free agent. Currently pre-arbitration eligible, he earns $720,000 per season, giving New York significant value for one of its most electrifying young players.
