Brilliant
Rooney is an extraordinary writer. So understated! The narrators are amazing and I know the Dublin accents add much to this listening experience

Somewhat relatable but lacking plot
This is my first Sally Rooney novel, chosen as it was the top fiction novel on GoodReads for 2021 and my goal for this year was to read some more books with romance. I will say I wasn't ready for the fairly plotless storyline and unlikeable characters, but I did find myself enjoying the cringeworthy encounters and relating to Alice when she was told she would do better in love if she weren't so smart and that she was intimidating. I also took note of the fantastic portrayals of consent in the sex scenes. I truly hoped the women would discover that their happiness lies far away from the boring, non-commital men they spent the book with, but I suppose they saw growth in other ways. I'm thinking this genre may not be for me 😂

Amazing narration, but annoying book
Aoife McMahon was absolutely BRILLIANT. She played all 4 characters (2 guys, 2 girls) and had the perfect voices/way of speaking for each. It was utterly convincing that there were 4 different people speaking. The low overall score is just because I didn’t like the book itself. Pretty preachy, far-fetched, boring non-storyline. Kind of reminded me of what a serious version of Seinfeld would be like peppered with Shakespearean email soliloquies. I have no idea how it won Fiction book of the year on GoodReads!!!! That’s the only reason I read it ugh.

Just really really good
Aoife McMahon is a voice of genius and Sally Rooney is the voice of several generations. A “must listen” audiobook.
