Description

"Amy's got your back. She's in your corner. She's an honesty bomb. And she's coming for you." (Actress Tilda Swinton, Trainwreck costar)

The Emmy Award-winning comedian, actress, writer, and star of Inside Amy Schumer and the acclaimed film Trainwreck has taken the entertainment world by storm with her winning blend of smart, satirical humor. Now Amy Schumer has written a refreshingly candid and uproariously funny collection of (extremely) personal and observational essays.

In The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, Amy mines her past for stories about her teenage years, her family, relationships, and sex and shares the experiences that have shaped who she is - a woman with the courage to bare her soul to stand up for what she believes in, all while making us laugh. Down to earth and relatable, frank and unapologetic, Amy Schumer is one of us: She relies on her sister for advice, still hangs out with her high school pals, and continues to navigate the ever-changing boundaries in love, work, and life.

Ranging from the raucous to the romantic, the heartfelt to the harrowing, this highly entertaining and universally appealing collection is the literary equivalent of a night out with your best friend - an unforgettable and fun adventure that you wish could last forever. Whether she's experiencing lust at first sight while in the airport security line, sharing her own views on love and marriage, admitting to being an introvert, or discovering her cross-fit instructor's secret bad habit, Amy Schumer proves to be a bighearted, brave, and thoughtful storyteller that will leave you nodding your head in recognition, laughing out loud, and sobbing uncontrollably - but only because it's over.

Fun and interesting read

It was really cool to hear Amy read her story in the way that it was intended to be read.

A good résumé of a lifestory

A really good testimony of what life is or could be.
It's interesting to see how people get on with their own lives, it helps to get another perspecrtive.

A funny and powerful autobiography!

I have loved Amy for a while so I had high expectations for her book. I am thrilled with how much I loved it. She is funny, real, raw, and shares so much of her incredible life. I highly recommend it!

Don't bother.

I could not enjoy this book. I really tried but she said "footnote," like 50 times in a row and talked about naming her stuff animal and gossiping about her friends at age 9. Really not interested sorry!

mind numbing

I love Amy Schumers comedy, however I feel like someone said to her she needed a book, and threw in a poorly planned semi biography. the entire book could be summarized as "people think I'm like __,but I'm really like__."

honestly it came off as tone deaf between bragging about being "new money" or how good she was at stealing. It had the potential to be a lot better. oh well.

Looking for humor? Look elsewhere.

I had this book in my wish list for awhile, I was really excited when it was finally released. I like Amy Schumer and expected to laugh throughout this book. Unfortunately each chapter was a total bummer.
From her dad's battle with MS to sexual assault with one guy to being physically abused by a different guy and a theater shooting. None of these serious subjects offered a laugh (and rightfully so.) It's interesting but if you are looking for a laugh, look elsewhere, there's no humor here.

Not what you think it is

Would you try another book from Amy Schumer and/or Amy Schumer?

No, no emotion in the reading, contradicts herself from one chapter to the next

What was most disappointing about Amy Schumer’s story?

Wasn't funny, though I didn't expect it to be. But she contradicts herself by bragging about how charitable she is, when true charity is what you do when no one is looking. Whole book feels like a PR person edited it, doesn't feel real or even that its her own words. One chapter she talks about how she is this closed in shy person, then another she talks about how many people she slept with, then says she isn't promiscuous, then in the next chapter talks about why she enjoys using the nuva ring. You can't have it both ways, either you are or you aren't

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Very dry, no emotion, couldn't tell if the jokes were suppose to be jokes or if they were even suppose to be funny. Most of the time you find yourself going "WTF?".

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No, didn't make it even half way through. Just found myself going "why and I even reading/listening to this?". And I love stand up comedy and comedians who write books, josh wolf, bert kriescher, greg fits Simmons, enjoyed all their books. I enjoy Amy's stand up as well, just feels like she's overreaching with this book.

Any additional comments?

Her stand up is great, her book not so much. Not really funny, although that's not the intent. Not really biographical either. Just feels like she is trying to make the narrative fit too wide of an audience instead of just writing it.

moments were funny, but mostly poor, amateur writing

I like her comedy but I was very disappointed by this book. There were very funny moments but for the most part it was cringeworthy. It was like she filled out a bunch of those facebook surveys "30 things you don't know about me " and turned it into a memoir. I still like her and her work, but she's not a writer and I would recommend skipping this book if you want to preserve your good image of her .

Wonderful

This is a honest look at several key situations in Amy's life. Read by Amy, this is equal parts laughs and life lessons. I was not a big fan before, but I am now.

Real Substance

Look, I knew there would be cringeworthy details and words in the book, but I like Amy and it's worth the wince. If only she could have had less of the words, references and stories that repulse my senses then I would have rated this as truly a masterpiece. She is a great writer. I truly looked forward to every next story. I never was bored. The content was not only interesting, but also oddly satisfying in that it philosophized questions that reward your soul. She is a good person and makes this world better. By the end of the book with her chapter and message about gun violence, I felt inspired to be a better person. I loved this book and am now a bigger fan than ever.

Over rated

Any additional comments?

I was expecting more of a Chelsea Handler type memoir. Real life laced with hilariousness. I still love Amy and her comedy, but she takes herself entirely too seriously. Maybe it's her young age, but Amy my dear, you don't quite have it all figured out yet as you would like us to believe. I had to sort of roll my eyes at some points, and the evaluation of her mom is brutal. I truly hope age, maturity, and possibly becoming a mother herself will soften that judgmental coldness. All in all a pretty good read though, and when she hits about 55, I'd be very interested to hear how at this age she realizes she did not have all the answers.

Not Worth My Time. <br />

That is time I will never get back. Don't bother with this book. I doesn't say anything and isn't interesting. Sorry I wasted a credit on that one.

Disappointing and depressing

This isn't a bad book per se, but I think I would have appreciated it a lot more if it balanced the hard stories with some lightness. I understand Schumer wants to express her life experiences, but I laughed (for a split second) once in the span of an 8+ hour book. She has to realize that people are buying it because she's a known comedian. The delivery was very subdued and the non-stop sad stories left me thinking this should have been her second book, not her first. If you buy this, know going in that it's anything but a funny book. Even if her stories had made me think, I would have taken away more. I just felt like I was locked in a room with a very depressed person.
