Description

It’s been almost a year since the Trials of Unyielding Steel.

When Lydia gets a lead on the whereabouts of Jonathan Sterling, she concludes her training with a legendary immortal sorcerer and puts a plan in motion for his capture.

Near Selyr, Taelien reunites with an old friend - Wrynn Jaden, the legendary Witch of a Thousand Shadows - and meets with Jonan to make a deal.

Jonan, of course, has other concerns. His master, the legendary Lady of Thieves herself, has given him a new assignment - one that hints at world-shaping events, if he can survive the mission. He’ll partner with Velas, but she has her own problems to deal with, including a revelation that will test where her loyalties truly lie.

Doesn't Quite Stick The Landing

This is an explosive finale with tons of action scenes and some great twists, which is why I wish it had been able to really stick the landing and give a sense of closure. As the characters race after their respective enemy and prepare for a final battle, the stakes are high. The end battle is fierce and questions are answered, but I felt like some major side plots were left hanging at the end.

The characters continue their progression and finally, at the end, finish their arcs. Despite some revelations, I didn't feel that Lydia and Jonan changed all that much. The same could not be said for others.

As always, the world and magic system are well explained and the action scenes are prevalent. But those are also a little bit of a hindrance. The telling over showing, even as it's tried to be made "natural," doesn't quite work. Constant action scenes, save for the finale, become a little too dry and take away from what could be great character moments.

The epilogues make it seem as though there is another series coming to wrap up some major questions, so I didn't quite feel a sense of closure. That said, the characters did finish most of their arcs, and most of the plotlines were wrapped up. Despite my complaints, this isn't a bad book. The author likely had a lot of fun and for those who want an exciting fantasy read, this could be a great one for you.

I am a fan

Defying Destiny is the 3rd and final book in Andrew Rowe's, the War of Broken Mirrors, series.

Wonderfully narrated by the very talented Nick Podehl. Who does an incredible job bringing this adventurous world to life.

All though this book brings something's to a conclusion and gets a few answers. It opens things up for the next series where some of the characters in this series are a part of. Just in a different part of the world.

As a gamer Andrew Rowe's books make a very interesting world I would love to see come out as an RPG. This world has it all. God's, powerful entities, living weapons, world enders and world creators.

I honestly have become a fan. I am eagerly awaiting the next series. My very real thanks to all involved in bringing the fantastic story into audiobook format.

Yours a fan

The author who can do no wrong

This was fantastic, as always. I had a feeling I knew where it was going to end, but it still kicked me in the gut when the end credits rolled.

Epic battles and answers about where the gods went

I love this series. The world Andrew Rowe has buildt even as harsh as it is makes me want to live there, become a paladin and protect the world. Nick Podehl does a wonderful job of bringing the world to life and has very distinct voices for each character. Together they make a unmatched pair.

In this book we get several epic battles, daring rescues and some secrets about the missing pantheon of God's. Main players get some closure, new tricks are used and some friends are lost.

This book definitely leaves ou waning more.

another dissapointment

Not sure how the author lost his talent but his first 3 books were awesome, the next 4 were hard to finish. In stealing sorcery talien's character took a nose dive but it's worse here. U cant write an arrogant mc who loses every fight unless he gets bailed out. Talent acts like gods gift to battle but gets owned every time. He lost to Donovan, veles, war, the broken ice goddess and the stone lord. This is a serious problem as most ppl would be reading this side trilogy because they're interested in his character who's represented much better in the main books sufficiently advanced magic. Also every other being is this God lvl threat that the characters can't beat thru conventional means. This could be a good thing if done from time to time but it happens alot.
