The city of the gods. Elantris once stood as the symbol of all that is beautiful. A sprawling metropolis of unrivaled grandeur, it was a symbol of power and strength, built to be as imposing as it was magnificent.

The only thing more glorious than the city itself was its inhabitants, godlike beings, with silvery skin and hair of the purest, flowing white. Able to create powerful magics with a mere wave of their hands, the Elantrians were able to heal mortal wounds and create any object they desired. To be an Elantrian was to be without sickness, without pain, and without want.

And anyone could become a god. Through a process known as the "Shaod", a normal person could go to bed one night and awake the next morning to throw away the shackles of mortality and become a being of incomparable power and grace. With Elantris as their beacon, the light inside all humanity was allowed to shine, elevating it to new heights.

But Elantris fell...10 years ago.

It’s sometimes difficult to hear the dialogue over music or the sound of swords clashing and people screaming

Great voice acting but awful sound mixing

I loved the graphic audio. I think it was performed very well. As per the story, it was above average. It was a bit one dimensional and rushed with not enough character development. I still enjoyed some parts of it.

I’ve read a bazillion books but never one by Brandon Sanderson. I had heard great things, but I wasn’t overly impressed by the story.
It felt very predictable and none of the characters captured my interest. I kept thinking that it felt like a story that had been done a million times.
The actors really helped me finish the book though. I wouldn’t have without them.
I will read more books by him to see if this was just the odd one out. Never judge a book by its first cover, ya know…😀

Totally recommend this one! The graphic audio is also amazing. There are maybe two scenes that the speech is quite difficult to hear but other than that it's amazing

Slow start. But a great read!

It was enjoyable enough of a story. Sometimes too slow, and sometimes rushed. The ending was obviously rushed. It was ok I guess. What I enjoyed was the style of conversation the characters had. It helps you understand new ways of communication style.

I'll open this review with the following disclaimer: I've returned the book, read on for why.

The story is great, and the work of the cast and sound team makes for an exciting, fast paced listening experience. I definitely recommend it to those who wish for a more immersive experience. On that aspect, it's a definite success.

Sadly, as someone on the spectrum with difficulty interpreting expressiveness, I've found the dialogues overwhelming. The choice to remove narrative context within the dialogues (i.e. replacing a "he said with a snort" comment with an audible snorting) is valid to create a fluid narrative experience. It just throws me off, because I personally need that subtext to help me compute the tone of the conversation.

All in all, I definitely recommend this version for those who are looking for an immersive, fast paced experience. Just be aware that small parts of the original text have been removed to reach this effect.

Great product, just not for me

I was not expecting this chapter of the cosmetic to live up to the others as it was the first Sanderson wrote. While it took a little longer to get into it was just as well written as the others, with a well planned plot that rise and fell with mastery. The graphic audio was also just so immersive, there were many nights that I just couldn't stop listening well into the early hours of the morning.
