The world teeters on the brink of destruction. The people who should be saving the Earth ignore Jason Asano's warnings and choose to loot the house as it burns down around them. He lacks the strength to save the world himself, but resolves to do it anyway, impossible be damned. The impossible, in this case, means seizing a power that no mortal should touch. It's a choice from which there is no turning back, and marks Jason's first step into a wider cosmos that he is not yet ready to face. Holding the fate of two worlds in his hands, Jason must decide for himself what home truly means.

It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

Jason arrives at a kingdom in peril and he's surprised to discover that it's not his job to save it. With the authorities fulfilling their responsibilities (for once), he looks forward to some quiet time to rest and recuperate. The locals might not find ceaseless monster onslaughts and an interdimensional invasion relaxing, but Jason has had a rough few years. He's doing his best to let go of his anger. While his team is caught up in duty, Jason has no shortage of people looking to interfere with his rest. Enemies—old and new—are circling, and even would-be allies are trouble.

Description
For all that Jason knows, life is amazing. But he's about to learn that all his new power, wealth, and influence comes at a price.
Riding high on success, he and his team are looking to the future, preparing themselves for the challenges to come. Nothing, however, could have prepared him for the lessons his enemies have to teach. When magic is involved, the stakes can be even greater than life and death.
While Jason’s personal enemies make plans, the greater foes plaguing his new home have been pushed to the brink. With one powerful card left to play, they are on a collision course with Jason and his team. With no one to help and more than their lives on the line, Jason and his companions must fight with more monsters than ever in the race to grow stronger. With an invincible enemy already anticipating them, they will learn that sometimes winning the battle is more important than surviving it.

A LitTPG with heart, brains, and comedy
A LitRPG written with true skill, fantastic comedic wit, and narrated by someone with the chops to do the text justice in the delivery.
This book dodges four of the major pitfalls that make so many entries into this genre unfinishable:
First, Shirtaloon knows how to use a thesaurus and has excellent editing. They write with impact, painting vibrant heavy-bass pictures with their prose, and inject proper suspense into conflict. No misused words or lame statements in climactic battles like "I shot him with my bullets until he was dead". Battles feel like battles, and are never boring, while also not taking up so much space that character development becomes stunted.
Second, while the System Messages that are integral to the genre are there, they are used as a narrative tool instead of simply a method by which run-time might be inflated. Neither over or underused. Excellent.
Third, the book is not a thinly veiled (or unapologetic) harem fantasy, and the romance that exists is natural (although not remotely the focus of the story).
Fourth, the comedy is really funny. You will laugh out loud from both the jokes and the vocal delivery. Nothing forced, here, just pure hilarity that brackets moments of real gravity and heartache.
I want a Stache Puppy.

Open for more to come.
Enjoyed this book, like the rest of the series. Ending felt a bit much though. Jumped all over like it was rushed in to leave an opening for another book.
Biggest criticism is that we keep listing to the exact same spell or ability descriptions over and over and over again. It's not needed in the middle and the end of the book, even more so from chapter to chapter

great but
so about halfway through the author just lists abilities for like 2 hours. I get this is a part of these types of books but when he is repeating abilities he listed a chapter previous it's almost insulting to the listener. overall I loved it , I just have that tiny nit to pick

Not as good as the first two books
Overall still an enjoyable book. I don’t regret buying and listening to this; however, it isn’t nearly as good as the first two books. There was more essence and power data dumps than ever before it seems, and the story was super rushed. It was almost episodic… the author knew where they wanted to get to and decided to just teleport the story to that point every hour or so and skip all the stuff in between. It was a bit jarring.

very enjoyable
as with books 1 and 2 this is a very enjoyable story. some reviews seem to focus on certain mechanics changing or needing to be changed;
1. the powers breakdown, but this is a LITrpg, if you don't want Power breakdown, just read regular fantasy.
2. too many fight scenes and not enough political banter, but I personally enjoy the fight scene/choreography. for me it's what draws me back in. so I feel that is a personal preference review.
3. the 8 epilogues, but if you continue reading the books (on shirtaloons page) you'll see how much vital information there is in those 8 epilogues. plus if you think that's a lot, try reading Tolkien.
4. one funny part is when the narrator accident uses Sophie's voice for a Humphrey line. classy whoops.
5. "all character's are Jason" I see this review a lot, but I honestly don't see where it's coming from... yes, some character's have taken on Jason like qualities. but that is true of life. anyone who spends a large amount of time with someone will become like them. "You are what you eat" any parent will tell you that. Also, "like draws to like", so if these people were drawn to Jason, it's because they already have similarities.
6. (spoilers) the only one I can agree with is Jason can be a whiny turn biscuit. which p.s. (doesn't change any time soon)
looking forward to listening to the next in the series. don't let bad reviews get you down Shirtaloon, 4.9/5 from 15 reviews speaks for itself.

Why say it once when you can say it ten times?
I've been keeping with this series on the promise of that first book. I enjoy the MC and his philosophy and the standard "gotta level up!" storyline is fine. What is really starting to grind my gears about this series is the repitition. The repitition is what bothers me. I really don't like the repitition. You know what I don't like? Repitition.
After having read that you are starting to get a clue of what this series is becoming. There's at least six hours in this audiobook that doesn't need to be there because its either A. Repeating something we already know. or B. Going through the motions of a character interaction that was already established. Example: (I don't like you because you don't drink coffee! *one chapter later* I still don't like you because you don't drink coffee!
This may just be how this author writes. I don't know. But there's enough good here that I hope he improves or at least gets a good editor.

This story took an unfortunate turn
So I've been waiting with bated breath for this, especially given how I first thought it was releasing on the 9th July.. darn you American date format! But after having just finished it, I have to say I'm disappointed and probably wont be following the story any further.
1) The book largely abandons its local and political tone in favour of an action tone, ie: this book is the most title-appropriate out of the series. It's just hours and hours and hours of him and his team fighting stuff.
2) Speaking of the fighting: the magic system favours the main characters. You know how, in the first book, one of Jason's ability's evolves in a critical moment? Expect a lot more of that in this book.
3) The astral beings are just another layer of turtles and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if another layer is introduced later on.
4) Speaking of which, the stakes are raised so high it's hard to care: the astral space subplot in the first book balloons into Jason literally being The Chosen One to save the parallel universes from The Builder.
5) There are multiple occasions where months go by in just a sentence.
6) There's three hours of epilogue and most of it is not particularly interesting.
7) Someone left a review on book two that everyone is becoming like Jason, and while someone refuted that in their review, I have to say that it's even more true in this book.
Overall, it's not an awful listen, but it's lacking a lot of charm from the first book and you'll probably glaze over a lot of what's going on, go back and realised you didn't actually anything interesting or important.

What’s With That Ending
I never thought I would find something worse than a cliffhanger but 8 epilogues and a cliffhanger WhAT THE HELL they where fillers and not bad but left bad taste after a decent book like the book never payed off at least cliffhanger give you something

As Jason would say…BOOOOO
What kind of audio book did I just listen to??? I LOVED the first book. It was a very fun main character and had its own original sarcastic twist but this 3rd book was just ROUGH.
EVERY SINGLE FIGHT had about 3 minutes of action and 35 minutes of explaining EVERY ability and what they do, what rank it is, how it stacks, TERRIBLE. I used my skip button for probably half the book and zoned out on other just because the actual meat of the storyline was few and far between.
The readers miss the political and sarcastic side of Jason. Not a “magical power attack theory 101”
Not even going to listen to the 3 HOURS of epilogues he wrote because I feel like I’ve already been ripped off of the storyline of Jason, I’m not going to listen to his teams storyline either

love this series
both the author and narrator are fantastic. as always I love the main character because nomater what he says or does or believes he still does the best he can. putting more good in the world. I'm only 3 chapters in so far will update when I finish. but just had to drop this review and say both author and narrator keep up the great work

I'm giving this 5 stars on everything but...
so far I've bought all three of these audiobooks and I have 19 hours left on the 3rd book, Jason just got captured by Lawrence at the behest of Lucian Lampre. my issue up to this point is character progression or lack there of in this case. I know this is fantasy and all that but according to the world this author has created and the rules there in Jason should not be alive after facing a silver rank monster at IRON rank. let me repeat... after 3 books the MC is still at the lowest possible level for an adventurer. I understand that authors want their mc to go through all their trials as the underdog and have them win by the skin of their teeth but this is ridiculous. from the authors own description a bronze ranker can destroy a iron with relative ease so how can Jason even still be alive at this point. I've only had this audible account for 9 months and have a total listen time of 2 months. thats 1440 listening hours on this platform not including the wall of audio cds i have in my house with over a thousand titles that I've already listened to multiple times. so I am an experienced listener. I'm tired of weak mcs every author does the same thing, except kel kade with his mc in kings dark tidings that was awesome and new but he still hasn't finished it and its been a few years since his last title in that series.

Poor ending.
I have really enjoyed the series but the last few hours of this book we're a real disappointment for me. It was just a lot of confusing nonsense with no satisfaction in it at all. It was more like the first few chapters of a different series and really took away from the experience for me.

Really Needs Fundamental Editing
This book continues a slight downward trend of the previous entries.
If you're reading this one, you already know that the book is formed from serials. The timeline of the serials is SIGNIFICANTLY further along from a brief glance at the website they're posted on.
This is one of those books where you could remove a quarter or a third of the word-count and it wouldn't effectively change the outcome. I feel for the author **minor spoilers** for focusing on six different characters with twenty abilities each and extra bonus abilities on top that they feel they have to describe. They've written themselves into a corner when it comes to concise writing. That said, I don't need you to explain the exact text of the ability multiple times. It's probably less grating in book form rather than hearing the narration of the same thing, sometimes in back to back chapters, several times.
Along those lines, the training montage section of this book was easily a half of its length. Way too long, way too much focus on encounters that, at the end of the day, don't matter.
That said, I enjoyed the book. These problems won't stop me from picking up the next one (presumably releasing in December), but I would like to see some more time spent editing and converting from the serial format. If you're reading this, one chapter a week, at approximately the rate it was released or similar, I'm not sure I'd have the problems with it I've mentioned here.
**Major Spoilers**
The epilogue chapters are horrible in terms of story flow. I'm sorry, EIGHT epilogue chapters is way too much. I had to force myself to finish the book. A lot of what happened there could have happened off screen. I enjoyed the chapter with Jason's sister, the portion on Thadwick's fate, and the sections in the inter dimensional city, Everything else could have been saved for the beginning of the next book or just left to the reader's imagination/shown in their actions later on. It really was a slog.
