I just loved this whole series of interviews.

It's so refreshing to think about Fatherhood specifically when thinking about parenting generally. Stephen is no regular podcaster working on the fly. Each episode feels like a personal essay in its flow. Its written as a story not a litany of facts, peppered with personal experience to keep it engaging. All the scariest topics- porn, cellphones, post-baby sex, time-spent etc. etc. are covered in ways that freaked me out then somehow reassured me that there were answers and solutions somewhere out there and that my kid, husband and myself are living through fantastic, messy and awkward times.

Totally the best podcast I've listened to in forever, what can I say...

full of misinformation and assumptions

the author did not properly research the topics therein, opting instead to rely on a few experts that agree with him instead of properly looking at the scientific consensus on the matter. neglecting many important points, such as that screentime is used for studying, socializing in various forms, and even reading and listening to audiobooks. all these behaviours are common without a screen and generally regarded as good. scientifically, it has been proven that the screen itself doesnt fuck up a child.

im very disappointed in this seemingly reliable podcast for proving to seek to misinform or at least be willfully negligent with the info it's spreading.

Couldn't finish the first episode

I downloaded this hoping I woukd enjoy it like I did his marriage podcast but I got 15 mins in and when he started talking to his friend about praising every little mundane thing your child does right in order for them to behave the way you want I stopped listening. Thats manipulation and coercion. Read the book unconditional parenting if you want to learn how to raise kids to be intrinsically motivated to do the right thing and not because of extrinsic praise.
I don't know what the rest of the book will be like as that was enough for me to realise I have different views.

I wish I would have discovered Dr. Stephen Marsh (who never refers to himself that way) years ago. He is a kind, interesting, wonderful person, let alone interviewer, story teller and at times comedian. His direct and down to earth questions just make sense, and answers almost always surprise me...and I'm a clinical psychologist. Thanks so much Stephen - dads enjoy!
