À propos de cet audio
Ancient, time-tested wisdom: Okinawa, Japan, is a tiny, tiny island south of the Japanese mainland where people live their life's purpose every day. How is it possible for so many to live each day in such meaningful ways? The Okinawan concept of Ikigai.
Magical reality come to life: David Michiels stuttered severely well into his adulthood. In clinical terms, his stutter was difficult to treat. But David started to work in a liquor store. Before long, his focus turned to one specific section of the sales floor: the scotch section. As he spent more of his days learning about scotch, he began to share his knowledge with customers. Eventually, David noticed that his stutter vanished when he talked to anyone about scotch. Over time, David's passion led to a new life. Today, he is a renowned whiskey expert, traveling the world tasting and purchasing whiskey on behalf of his employer. He feels his life is meaningful because of ikigai.
A humble look at happiness: Bringing together an exploration of joy not unlike that of The Book of Joy by the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a look inward reminiscent of The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer, and deep truths like those explored by Singer in The Surrender Experiment, How to Ikigai describes the concept of Ikigai with clarity and meaning.

Most of us have instinctive evidence the world is ending - balmy December days, face-to-face conversation replaced with heads-to-screens zomboidism, a world at constant war, a political system in disarray. We hear some myths and lies so frequently that they feel like truths: Civilization is humankind’s greatest accomplishment. Progress is undeniable. Count your blessings. You’re lucky to be alive here and now. Civilized to Death counters the idea that progress is inherently good, arguing that the "progress" defining our age is analogous to an advancing disease.

Couldn't wait to get in car to listen every day.
Ikigai, a Japanese concept that means "a reason for being" refers to having a direction or purpose in life.
I had already read two other books on Ikigai, and some Internet research,
Tim Tamashiro is a Canadian, as I am I. I didn't seek him our, but as I researched Ikigai, Tim's story jumped out at me again and again.
It started with, CBC Radio -- really? I guess if you pretend radio is really just another name for a podcast, it's bearable.
Then jazz. Well, so many people around me love jazz. I feel it's something I really missed out on hearing and loving.
Finally his decision to take a year out of his life to find his Ikigai.
The book is well-written and read by Tim. His reading of the book is done so well that I felt he was in the shotgun seat every morning and afternoon. I couldn't wait to get into the car to listen. When the man said "Audible Thanks You For Listening" I was left wanting more.
The personal story is chilling. The anecdotes were memorable. The story of Kyoko (and Yuuto) and her dragons was delivered with flawless perfection.
If you're seeking your Ikigai, Tim shares his journey and recommends how you can approach yours.

This is a GREAT audible!
I am almost finished this great book on audible and wanted to ensure I posted a review. 1st, Tim's narration is superb and authentic. I always appreciate when it's the actual author speaking as it's "real" to their experience. There was a great underlying message throughout the book with many stories that really struck home for me. It's made me consider how I can also shift what I'm doing to much more Ikigai in my life. In fact, much more than the usual self-help type books out there. Thanks Tim for taking time to share your voice on this importance to stop, reflect and refocus on what matters most.

Good but long-winded introduction to Ikigai
It's not bad by any means, but if you're coming to this book because you're already somewhat familiar with the concept of ikigai, I wouldn't really recommend it. It's the same basic explanation you'll find on YouTube (because, to be fair, it is a basic concept), followed by 6 hours of long-winded, sometimes redundant, not-all-that-inspiring anecdotes about people who *kind of* lived out their ikigai, but not really... not fully.
This very much seems to be aimed at the absolute spiritual beginner; even explaining in full chapters what mindfulness and meditation are. I can't imagine anyone listening to this book wouldn't already fully grasp these things... but I digress. I suppose it just means I wasn't the intended audience (though, perhaps, I should have been.)
