À propos de cet audio

The unauthorized story of Lululemon.

This is a book about ordinary people who took an opportunity to be creative, to be innovative, and to maximize their potential.

Chip Wilson’s part in this story comes from the learning of thousands of mistakes. He set the culture, business model, quality platform, and people development program and then got out of the way. Lululemon’s exponential growth, culture, and brand strength have few peers, and it is because of those employees who choose to be great.

This book is also about missed opportunity - five years of missed opportunity. Chip was playing to win while the directors of the company he founded were playing not to lose.

This book should be a mandatory read for business schools. We learn so much about business strategy, financials; dream about consulting and investment banking… however we don’t learn about the importance, battles and experiences of creating a culture from the ground up + enforcing it top-to-bottom. What I’m taking away from Chip Wilson’s book (other than the 1000 book recommendations and Landmark course) is 1. Creating short term / long term SMART goals , 2. Keeping my team small and laser focused on the mission / culture of the company 3. Learning the art of articulating future-forward concepts to fixed mindset individuals 4. Creating an outlet (social media, Substack, YouTube) where you document your ideas and processes. Leveraging connection tools to tell your side of the story.

Being mediocre is so easy…Chip Wilson stands for greatness. A lot of people aren’t ready for that conversation just yet.

Admire Chip’s vulnerability to share the truth despite the amount of conflict that likely arose from it- to me, that’s true bravery and legacy. All for the benefit of our learning and wisdom, Chip shared details and ins and outs of his thinking and growth journey. This gave a sincere look into the depths of going public, failing, startup troubles, family involvement, conflicting personalities in a board, key employees, company culture, going against the status quo and so much more! Any entrepreneur with a mindset to grow should listen.

Authentic, raw and mega-helpful book for entrepreneurs and startups!

I was excited to read this book but was hesitant based on the reviews referring to the second half of the book being perceived as bitter towards Lululemon. I have to say after finishing the book it is more about the rise and fall of a business model and the personal struggle of being a leader. I believe Chip is describing his side of events that no one allowed him to tell and of course he has a lot to say about how his empire was drastically changed towards the opposition of what Lululemon stood for. Read this book and decide for yourself, but you will certainly take away something from it regardless of your perspective!

Highly recommend!
