Histoire
Scotty Bowman is recognized as the best coach in hockey history, and one of the greatest coaches in all of sports. He won more games and more Stanley Cups than anyone else. Despite all the changes in hockey, he coached at the very top for more than four decades, his first Cup win and his last an astonishing thirty-nine years apart. Yet perhaps most uniquely, different from anyone else who has ever lived or ever will again, he has continuously experienced the best of hockey since he was fourteen years old.

Brian Burke is one of the biggest hockey personalities - no, personalities full-stop - in the hockey media landscape. His brashness makes him a magnet for attention, and he does nothing to shy away from it. Most famous for advocating "pugnacity, truculence, testosterone, and belligerence" during his tenure at the helm of the Maple Leafs, Burke has lived and breathed hockey his whole life.

Histoire
By the time he was twenty-two years old, goaltender Corey Hirsch had realized his childhood dream of playing in the NHL, won an Olympic medal and drunk from the Stanley Cup. While he excelled on the ice, out of the net Hirsch was plagued by persistent dark thoughts and ceaseless anxiety. On days when he could barely get out of bed, he was able to push aside the endless loop of dark thoughts running inside his brain long enough to win a game. But as soon as he got back home, the agonizing cycle started all over again.

Description
Hockey Card Stories reveals what was really going on in your favorite old hockey cards through the eyes of the players depicted on them. Some of the cards are definitely worth a few bucks, some a few cents - but every story told here is priceless. Sportsnet's Ken Reid presents the cards you loved and the airbrushed monstrosities that made you howl, the cards that have been packed away in boxes forever, and others you can't believe ever existed. Whether it's a case of mistaken identity or simply a great old photo, a fantastic 1970s haircut and 'stache, a wicked awesome goalie mask, or a future Hall of Famer's off-season fashion sense, a wide variety of players - from superstars like Bobby Orr, Denis Potvin, and Phil Esposito to the likes of Bill Armstrong, who played only one game in the NHL - chime in on one of their most famous cards.

THE BEST!!
Easily one of the most entertaining audio books I've ever listened to. The author/narrator's Nova Scotian accent is perfect for the fun, whimsical stories that come with the cards in the book. I LOVED the fact that he the focus isn't on the technical aspects of cards so much as the amazing and entertaining stories that the players have told him about stuff that happened around the time the hockey cards were made.
If you like hockey, you'll love this book. I can't recommend it enough!!

Rip’em open.
Great idea interviewing the players.
Lots of fun hearing their stories.
Made me realize why I still buy cards and how much fun it is to talk about the players that turn up.
