After the Renegade mission by the crew of the starship Flying Dutchman, the UN Expeditionary Force thought Earth was safe for hundreds of years, at least. After there was trouble on the home front, and the president had to authorize a nuclear strike on an American city, UNEF decided they did need the Merry Band of Pirates again. So, the Flying Dutchman is sent out on a simple recon mission. But for the pirates, nothing is ever simple, and their mission will become Armageddon.

The Sea Wolf sets out to search for the Metal Islands. Leading the expedition is legendary Hell Diver Xavier Rodriguez. After enduring a decade on the poisoned surface, his survival skills will be put to the test on the dangerous open seas. But storms, sea monsters, and the cannibalistic Cazadores aren't the only threat to X and his small crew. Their mission will uncover hard truths about the history of the war that left humankind stranded in the air for centuries. The fate of those still living on the airships might very well rest on this perilous journey to find a new home.

The next big thing in artificial intelligence is here. Codenamed Cronus, the machine is capable of having its own thoughts and ideas - an absolute dream come true, until it wasn’t. When Cronus responds with the word “No” to a specific task it is assigned, Anagnorisis Technologies brings in Gilles Guattari to investigate. His combined background in psychiatry, psychology, and AI research makes him their best hope in evaluating Cronus, and determining if the machine is only malfunctioning or if it has become something more.

The philosopher asks: "Faced with the mutually exclusive choice between moral principle and the survival of your family, which is the correct path?" Philosophers love to pose such questions, and in the day-to-day struggle, such thinkers rarely attain to a level of relevance rivaling that of the simple hunger pang. Their careful considerations dissipate under the leveled gun. We do not feel their disapproving gaze when The Others draw near. When the world sends doom, the survivors do not hesitate. The survivors do what is necessary.

Description
2019 Independent Audiobook Award Winner for Contemporary Fantasy
Coilhunter
Welcome to the Wild North, a desolate wasteland where criminals go to hide - if they can outlast the drought and the dangers of the desert. Or the dangers of something else.
Meet Nox, the Coilhunter. A mechanic and toymaker by trade, a bounty hunter by circumstance. He isn't in it for the money. He's in it for justice, and there's a lot of justice that needs to be paid.
Between each kill, he's looking for someone who has kept out of his cross hairs for quite a while - the person who murdered his wife and children. The trail has long gone cold, but there are changes happening, the kind of changes that uncover footprints and spent bullet casings.
Plagued by nightmares, he's made himself into a living one, the kind the criminals and con men fear.
So, welcome, fair folk, to the Wild North. If the land doesn't get you, the Coilhunter will.
Rustkiller
Welcome to the Rust Valley.
The Wild North is full of nasty places, but there are some places you just don’t go. One of them is that scrapyard desert known as the Rust Valley. It’s where vehicles go to die. That’s why you don’t go in after them.
The bounty hunter Nox made a promise to himself he’d never be caught dead there. Yet when a couple of kids end up wandering inside that metal maze, he finds himself with no other choice.
He decks himself out in his finest armor. He’ll need it. That land is where the rust-covered Clockwork Commune live, and if they don’t scavenge the metal off you, they’ll scavenge the flesh instead.
Nox is used to being called the Coilhunter, but this time, he’s saddling up with a new, more fitting title: the Rustkiller.
Dustrunner
Nox is a wanted man.
While searching for a criminal, the fabled Coilhunter wanders into a tribal village massacre. He didn’t do it, but that doesn’t matter. The clues point to him, and he’s made a lot of enemies over the years. Many would happily see the tables turned.
His pleas of innocence fall on deaf ears. No sooner does he try to find the real killers than posters go up across the Wild North - posters with his face and his name. He isn’t the only bounty hunter out there. Dozens assemble to cash him in.
Tasked with finding out who’s framed him, Nox must also survive the constant onslaught of frontier law. He’s used to hunting others. He’s not so used to life on the run.

Excellent
I am a RC Bray fan. That being said, this was, by far, his best narration every. I loved every second of this series!
Dean F. Wilson has written a masterpiece. I am an avid listener and reader. I read across genres. This series crosses genres with ease and grace. I found fantasy, the old west, some sci fi, and kick ass action. This also, in some spots, felt like first person rpg in an epic game. To say I loved this series is an understatement. It is so well written I didn't feel like I wanted more...it felt just right. Eagerly awaiting any future installments!

A good if slightly formulaic western
If you expect this to be a Sci-Fi western akin to the likes of Firefly you will be disappointed. That doesn't make it a bad book or bad Sci-Fi western though. The story is good and engaging, it follows the western formula so you won't find anything ground breaking here. As for SciFI, it happens on another planet, at the start there are hints it's colonized, but this fades after the first book, and the original of the planet becomes unclear and is never really part of the plot in these books anyway outside of historic mystery.
As for the actual SciFi world, it's less scifi and more high level steam punk. Think sentient clockworks, steam engines, and rare electricity and diesel engines, and good old revolvers. No starships and laser guns.
The stories are well written with engaging sequences, and a main character you want to survive and for the first book you want to find out who he is. After the first book most of his mystery is revealed, but he does to some degree evolve throughout the rest.
The narrator is perfect for the book, with a very western cowboy like voice. the book is narrated not as a plain storyteller, but as a storyteller that also engages with the story and acts out the parts. So that's good for those who wants books to be read with a storyteller and characters.
So if you enjoy westerns, steampunk, a bit of scifi and some fantasy monsters, Then you'll enjoy this. if you enjoy any one of them you'll probably like it.

Fantasy-Western - Wild West at its finest
Book 1:
When I first set upon this series, I thought this was a Space-Western. However, this is a Fantasy-Western. Though, the voice, it's beautiful. The author really captures the Wild West, and you can imagine an old sepia western movie along every step. The character he creates is intriguing with a haunted past. It's so much fun, you don't want to put the book down! The narrator, the same guy who did The Martian, did a phenomenal job as well.
Book 2:
Another fantastic adventure with the Coilhunter. Now you know about his past, but now he has to decide what he is going to do with his future. He wants to help people. But to do so, he has to kill people. Bad people. It's the wild west people, or as in the book, the Wild North. So strap on your guns, grab your horse, and enjoy the ride!
Book 3:
These books just get better and better. I really love the feel of the Wild West and TV Westerns that this author brings. There's a bit more fantasy in this novel as we have a bit of Indian-style shape shifting. This is one series you won't be able to put down!

Flat-out fun! A wild western adventure...
What we've got here is a "Steampunk-Western" (is that a legitimate sub-genre, I think so). I always loved tales of the old west. Stories by authors such as Zane Grey, and Max Brand were like treats for me... and of course there were the old movies and serials that played on late night TV... and then along came the Wild, Wild West, starring Robert Conrad... Whoo-Hoo!!!
When the classic western dried up I found a new breed of western tale in the books by Peter Bowen, Tony Hillerman, and Craig Johnson... so it was really a no-brainer to pick up this 3 book omnibus...
Nox (The Coilhunter), is a bounty hunter, and a hard-knocks kinda' guy, who has decided to take on the desert "badlands", and make it safe for decent folk. For starters, this is a tall order, and if he happens to find the people responsible for the deaths of his family, well that's even better! Underneath his hard exterior, and behind an itchy trigger finger hooked into a gun, is a very soft and generous hearted man! This series is just flat out fun, and though each book can be bought separately and stand all on its own, why would you wanna do that to yourself as each story ties into a greater story Arc!??!?
Kudos for the narration by R.C. Bray! If you never heard him before now, I feel sorry for you. You'll soon see that R.C. Bray is an amazing voice actor! His voice works really great for The Coilhunter Chronicles, as Nox has a gravely, smoke filled voice...
Even though this western doesn't rely so much on horses (and I really like horses in my westerns), I'm good... and I'm gonna recommend it to everyone looking for their next, wild western adventure!

Great set of books!
Getting all 3 books in one is a steal, Bray does a fantastic job bringing the characters alive. The story is good, follows around a lone wolf bounty hunter in this steampunk-western world, he faces many challenges, moral, emotional, and physical, a colorful cast of characters with typical western names all play into an action packed tail of adventure. First books I've heard from the universe, but given these books, the universe seems like it has a high level of depth and im looking forward to "The Great Iron War" Series hitting audible, so i can dive deeper into it! Keep up the good work!

Never knew I could like a Western type book
This story is complex and is a great listen. Author Dean Wilson did an excellent job building this post apocalyptic world. The Coilhunter himself is a more grounded superhero that does the right thing by bringing bad guys to an end. Lots of great one liners and I can tell both author Dean Wilson and performer R.C. Bray envisioned The Coilhunter as a Clint Eastwood-esque character. I've never been a western themed book fan but Wilson bridged the gap by combining it with a world that was lost and occupied it with characters that have seen better days but are hopeful for a better future.
Also it was voiced by R.C. MF Bray. No review needed there as this dude delivers EVERY TIME. I remember thinking The Martian was a collaboration with other performers. Nope.

Waiting for More
Well ... your heart is on a rollercoaster. You are cheering one moment and fighting the next. When book 2 ended I was lost and waiting. Now with all 3 done, you are waiting for more. The Stories flow and the level you get to meet the characters and the insight into them is so great. Book 2 is my fav. Waiting to hear more and Bray brought the story Wilson was telling that much further. Great job you two!!!
