I highly recommend all of the Tortall series and this kind of prequel of events that are in Terrier, Bloodhound and Mastiff really are an amazing look at the realm at a different time. The ties to George Cooper just make it all the sweeter.

I've been a fan of Tamora Pierce's books for over 20 years. I think this novel exhibits all the hallmarks of her writing at its peak. Beka is such a great character, so different from those who came before her. The audio narration was great, the pacing perfect.
