À propos de cet audio

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The first book in Diana Gabaldon’s acclaimed Outlander saga, the basis for the Starz original series.

One of the top ten best-loved novels in America, as seen on PBS’s The Great American Read!

Unrivaled storytelling. Unforgettable characters. Rich historical detail. These are the hallmarks of Diana Gabaldon’s work. Her New York Times bestselling Outlander novels have earned the praise of critics and captured the hearts of millions of fans. Here is the story that started it all, introducing two remarkable characters, Claire Beauchamp Randall and Jamie Fraser, in a spellbinding novel of passion and history that combines exhilarating adventure with a love story for the ages.

Scottish Highlands, 1945. Claire Randall, a former British combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding clans in the year of Our Lord . . . 1743.

Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of a world that threatens her life, and may shatter her heart. Marooned amid danger, passion, and violence, Claire learns her only chance of safety lies in Jamie Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior. What begins in compulsion becomes urgent need, and Claire finds herself torn between two very different men, in two irreconcilable lives.

Having listened to all of the outlander series many times I was excited for the new narration. i am very disappointed. The narrator is very flat with little inotation in her voice. Also, the different character voices, sometimes I could not distinguish one character from the other. i was so looking forward to this as I loved her in the role of Jenny in season seven of Outlander.

The lack of enthusiasm in the narration

I wondered if having a new narrator for this series would be a good thing or not. I was worried for nothing. Kristin Atherton does an absolutely fantastic job with this new narration of a beloved book, which I have also listened to many times with the just as fantastic original narrator.

I recommend it warmly.

A new beginning for a familiar story

After listening to all the Outlander books with the talented Davina Porter and being in love with the story, I wanted to hear it again with a narrator so it might be like a new experience with a story I already knew. I was very disappointed and couldn't finish it. The narrator's voice was too harsh and I couldn't discern one character from another. It was just like a regular person reading to me. Not someone who is supposed to be a professional voice actor who should bring all the emotions of every word they utter. Her absence of inflection and intonation actually made the story less dramatic and possibly less appealing for someone who has never read it or heard it through the voice of Davina Porter.
