Description
Achieve healthy vagus nerve tone and reduce stress, improve well-being, and heal your mind and body with Polyvagal Theory and Yoga
The vagus nerve connects your throat to your facial muscles and extends from your brain stem to your intestines and stomach. Peak emotional and physical well-being is directly correlated to a healthy vagus nerve, leading to alleviation of the negative effects of PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
In this book, Isaac Anderson and Gabriel Dubois discuss evidence-based yoga practices and principles, as well as Dr. Stephen Porges’ research and development of polyvagal theory, so that you can stimulate and influence vagal tone and regain body and mind balance.
Here’s what you’ll learn:
- How to get out of "fight-or-flight" mode using science-backed techniques
- How to use polyvagal theory to heal yourself and improve your life
- The evidence-based vagus nerve stimulation methods that will improve health and well-being
- The relationship between the vagus nerve and weight loss
- The vagus nerve’s role in depressive symptoms
- How meditation and yoga can improve vagus nerve health
- And so much more!
Yoga and polyvagal theory are key to achieving a healthy vagal tone and restoring the optimal balance of both your parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems, so you can be more resilient in the face of radical change and life stresses.
Be on your way to science-based healing!

A must ready book for trauma, PTSD, depression and anxiety healing
The first part of the book may be a tad difficult to follow without a science background, but extremely useful information to understand the importance of healing stress, PTSD, depression, etc to avoid long term chronic conditions and more serious disease.
Vagus Yoga part of this book is brilliant to truly drive home the message of how the ancient Vedic science of yoga can be integrated into modern psychotherapy to treat PTSD, depression, anxiety, and links the wisdom of how trauma is stored in the body.
Grateful to both authors for their ability to bring science backed wisdom to ancient practices to heal, and create a daily practice.
Very useful knowledge packed with practical applications for daily life.
To Gabriel Dubois: please include a PDF to Audible of the yoga poses to lower the barrier to entry for beginners.

Seems very Convoluted
I was looking for the exercises mentioned by other vagus nerve books’ descriptions and reviewers.
So I bought this one first and it’s challenging …
Exercises are hard to find because this book’s chapters are also not labeled.
Listening to the intro of each chapter is a task. The rest of each chapter seems to be different than the introduction.
Various phrases get repeated over and over and over and over. In different chapters. Seems like bunny trails from bunny trails.
A little repetition is good for memorizing/learning. Too much repetition becomes boring especially if you are looking for a specific section like exercises for example.
I felt very confused and still didn’t find the exercises.
Terminology is not at the average level so you would need a medical dictionary and pause a lot to try and grasp the concepts the author tries to explain.
Might be Very boring for the majority of today’s People but very useful for analytical minds.
Lots of data, and technical information.
A reference guide like this might be easier in physical book format so you could access the information easily.
Suggestions:
label audio tracks
Use terms a 3rd grader would understand
Remove repetitive phrases
Thank you for the information. Please forgive me if I sound overly critical.

A Wealth of information
The science of the book can be overwhelming. The overall connection that is wonderfully described is the relationship between the vagal nerve to total wellness and resilience.
