Description

There was no doubt about it. What Miss Harriet Pomeroy needed was a man. Someone powerful and clever who could help her rout the unscrupulous thieves who were using her beloved caves to hide their loot. But when Harriet summoned Gideon Westbrook Viscount St. Justin to her aid, she could not know that she was summoning the devil himself....
Dubbed the Beast of Blackthorne Hall for his scarred face and lecherous past, Gideon was strong and fierce and notoriously menacing. Yet Harriet could not find it in her heart to fear him. For in his tawny gaze she sensed a savage pain she longed to soothe...and a searing passion she yearned to answer.

Now, caught up in the beast's clutches, Harriet must find a way to win his heart - and evade the deadly trap of a scheming villain who would see them parted for all time.

Ce que les critiques en disent

"Although more romance than Regency - a few articles of clothing and a liberal sprinkling of the word ton suffice for atmosphere - genre aficionados will find this a spiffy read." ( Publishers Weekly)

No Beast at All

Harriet Pomeroy is a bluestocking who is solely interested in fossils. She doesn’t believe that she will ever marry, and she is content to stay in the country and be a spinster. Gideon, Viscount St. Justin is known as the Beast of Blackthorne hall because it is rumoured that he caused his fiancé to kill herself and may have had something to do with his own brother’s death. Because no one has believed he has honour, Gedeon prefers to stay out of society and take care of his many family holdings. When Harriet finds that thieves are using her caves to hide their ill-gotten gains, she summons Gideon to a place he hasn’t been in 6 years.

Due to their stubbornness Gideon and Harriet find themselves trapped in the caves over night, which leads to the destruction of Harriet’s reputation. Gideon having honour, and unrecognized feelings for Harriet, proposes marriage. While Gideon and Harriet discover each other and an ever-lasting love, the truth about the past is revealed and both society and the Westbrook family are forced to re-evaluate their views of St. Justin.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I read it for the fist time about 30 years ago. This was my first time listening to it on audio. The narrator was good, and the various voices were consistent throughout the book. I love the story and how Harriet believed in her husband and was willing to take on all comers to defend him. Her fierceness, stubbornness, and soft heart make her such a lovable heroine. While Gideon exhibited the same traits, you only see his heart regarding Harriet and his parents.

It's been a while since I’ve read this book, and I enjoyed it just as much this time as I did the last. It reminded me once again why I started reading historical romance novels and what I love about them. The main characters are dynamic and entertaining and there is a main subplot that has many branches. This story me keep me turning the pages/listening to find out what would happen next – especially when it would be outrageous. Highly recommend this book to Historical Romance Readers, whether you’re new to the genre or been reading it for a long time.

Loved it!

I loved reading all of Amanda Quick’s novels over and over again. It’s perfect to put them on now as background while doing housework or driving. Anne Flosnik is better than most I’ve come across. Have a bit of a hard time listening to her sex scenes but only because it sounds like my gramma talking. She’s pretty intense. Anne Flosnik not my gramma!

Loved this book💕

Okay so, I love Amanda Quick's books, however her female leads are really dumb. I think so far in all her books I have read, only a hand full of her heroines are actually intelligent. If their characters were better developed the books would have been better..especially this particular female lead, so stupid.

Who is the Beast of Bkackthorne Hall

I’ve read many Amanda Quick novels, and I enjoy her earlier Regency romances the best. This story is a Beauty and The Beast retelling. I listened to this as background to some rather intricate knitting I have on the go. The narrator, Anne Flosnik, does a good job, and she kept my interest throughout her performance.

She captures the relationship between the bossy Harriet Pomeroy and Gideon Westbrook, Viscount St. Justin, the alleged Beast of Blackthorne Hall, as they both make their way through a London season while also trying to solve a mystery. The secondary characters are engaging, and in the end, love conquers all, with a few detours along the way for fossil hunting, redeeming Gideon’s reputation, reuniting a family, and coming to terms with the traumas of the past. I especially enjoyed Harriet’s faith in Gideon’s honour right from the start.

Recommended.
