Description

Charlotte Holmes, Lady Sherlock, returns in the Victorian-set mystery series from the USA Today best-selling author of A Conspiracy in Belgravia and A Study in Scarlet Women, an NPR Best Book of 2016.

Under the cover of "Sherlock Holmes, consulting detective", Charlotte Holmes puts her extraordinary powers of deduction to good use. Aided by the capable Mrs. Watson, Charlotte draws those in need to her and makes it her business to know what other people don't.

When the estranged wife of her dear friend Lord Ingram is discovered dead on his estate, all signs point to him as the murderer. With Scotland Yard closing in, Charlotte goes under disguise to find out the truth.

Listen and listen again

Like the previous books in the Lady Sherlock series, The Hollow of Fear is a masterpiece. The stories have many layers complexly woven together and the characters are all fascinating. I have listened to each of the three books several times and gain new insight & understanding with each listening. As a fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes as well as BBC’s Benedict Cumberbatch Sherlock, I treasure Sherry Thomas’ Lady Sherlock as a brilliant representation of one of my favourite fictional heroes.

Riveting!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have had to force myself to turn it off and go DO something! It has an intricate storyline and a wonderfully quirky main character. The narration is first rate and very enjoyable to listen to. I can't wait for the next one to come out!

Love this series

The plot of this book begins about 60 seconds after the previous book's plot ends, so be sure to read the series in order. That being said, if it has been a year or so since you read/listened to the last two books, you'll be fine, as the author kindly reminds the reader of the most salient plot points to get you up to speed in the first few minutes. This is a delightful series with Charlotte Holmes in the great detective's role, and there are plenty of plot twists and turns, as well as brilliant deductions, with a hint of romance, to keep any reader/listener happily occupied. Kate Reading is the perfect narrator (I love her rendition of the Pink Carnation series by Lauren Willig) and does a wonderful job conveying the nuances of each character. The is an extremely enjoyable book.

Best yet

The worst thing about this book is getting to the end and having to wait for the next one.

Love, love, love!

This was just released and I'm anxiously awaiting the next book. Kudos to Sherry Thomas for her excellent writing and successfully and artfully weaving an alternate Sherlock Holmes world storyline. Kate Reading also, as usual, expertly brings the characters to life. Whoever made the decision to put Ms. Reading's narration to Ms. Thomas' work deserves every reward they receive.

LOVE LOVE LOVE

This was the best yet in the Lady Sherlock series. Charlotte and Lord Ingram are delicious and the story was expertly woven and intriguing. I will be impatiently awaiting Lady Sherlock’s next adventure.

Wow! What a twist!

You will not see this ending coming. Shock, sadness, and a smile in the epilogue.

This series just keeps getting better.

In The Hollow of Fear, Charlotte must investigate her toughest case thus far. Lord Ingram is suspected of murdering Lady Ingram when she is found dead in the ice building of their estate. The mystery that unfolded was so clever that even I was astounded when all was revealed.

We meet a new character, Sherringford Holmes, supposed brother of the ailing Sherlock Holmes and suspiciously shaped like Charlotte Holmes. *winks* I loved every moment.

We spend quite a bit of time with Lord Ingram, a favorite character of mine since the beginning of this series. He really has gotten him into quite the mess, and all evidence supports he is involved. It was exciting seeing Charlotte work to solve the mystery and of course clear the devilishly handsome Lord Ingram.

Secondary characters like Mrs. Watson and Charlotte’s sister Livia added interesting side-threads. I loved that we got to know Livia more.

We see movement in the slow-burning romance, and I loved every moment of it. The way Charlotte’s mind works combined with her forward, logical thinking adding some humor in addition to tender, romantic encounters.

As a parent of a child with Asperger’s I feel comfortable around Charlotte and while some find her thinking unconventional or shocking I can only nod my head.

Kate Reading narrates the series and beautifully captures Charlotte many sides. I could not imagine listening to the series without her. Each character has a distinct voice and she enhances the tone, mystery and pacing of this brilliant story.

Love this series!

Was certain a lady Sherlock would be a waste of time. Boy was I wrong here’s begging for next book in series!! Please & Soon?
I never dreamed I could like any Sherlock but the original. Happy I picked up Sherry’s very fresh, creative style with enough elegant surprise nods to the old familiar story to have it all a new “old” favorite.

needs a warning

This book and Book 2 ended in very disturbing ways. The writing / story is good up until the ending. It seemed like the writer was pressured to finish the book in a hurry and decided to write the worst most disturbing thing they could think of as an ending. I've said for years that these Audible books need to come with a Rating like movies.

More romance than mystery...

Admittedly, I am enjoying this series in general but it is far more a romance than a mystery series. Not that I’m knocking the mystery aspects, I just prefer any entanglements between characters to be much more subdued and the focus to be on the puzzle at hand. They’re enjoyable, but not my all time favorites.

good story but starts off slowly

the first part of the book took too long in getting to the point of the story. I read a previous book and felt it well written and unraveled the plot twist consistently. in this case it took so long to have anything to consider that I nearly stopped reading. in the end it was interesting, but uncertain if I want to read another in the series
