À propos de cet audio
Christopher Buehlman excels in twisting the familiar into newfound dread in his genre-bending novels. Now the acclaimed author of Those Across the River delivers his most disquieting tale yet.
The secret is, vampires are real and I am one. The secret is, I'm stealing from you what is most truly yours and I'm not sorry.…
New York City in 1978 is a dirty, dangerous place to live - and die. Joey Peacock knows this as well as anybody - he has spent the last 40 years as an adolescent vampire, perfecting the routine he now enjoys: womanizing in punk clubs and discotheques, feeding by night, and sleeping by day with others of his kind in the macabre labyrinth under the city's sidewalks.
The subways are his playground and his highway, shuttling him throughout Manhattan to bleed the unsuspecting in the Sheep Meadow of Central Park or in the backseats of Checker cabs, or even those in their own apartments who are too hypnotized by sitcoms to notice him opening their windows. It's almost too easy.
Until one night he sees them hunting on his beloved subway. The children with the merry eyes. Vampires, like him…or not like him. Whatever they are, whatever their appearance means, the undead in the tunnels of Manhattan are not as safe as they once were.
And neither are the rest of us.

Andrew Ranulf Blankenship is a handsome, stylish nonconformist with wry wit, a classic Mustang, and a massive library. He is also a recovering alcoholic and a practicing warlock, able to speak with the dead through film. His house is a maze of sorcerous booby traps and escape tunnels, as yours might be if you were sitting on a treasury of Russian magic stolen from the Soviet Union thirty years ago.

Is the house her enemy or her ally? And why are roses blooming out of season in the courtyard?

In a world scarred by an apocalyptic past, evoking a time both 2,000 years past and 2,000 years into the future, untold thousands gather for a crusade. Among them, two men and two women are ensnared by a mysterious traveler, Anasûrimbor Kellhus - part warrior, part philosopher, part sorcerous, charismatic presence - from lands long thought dead. The Darkness That Comes Before is a history of this great holy war, and like all histories, the survivors write its conclusion.

Ce que les critiques en disent
awesome narration, excellent vampire tale!

Plot - Very original. I love period pieces and this was set in the late 70s. I find that a cleaner, more enjoyable story can be told when technology isn't involved. The characters felt real and the character building was excellent so much that I was very involved and cared about them to the point when some of them died I actually felt sad. The ending.....wow he was incredibly brave to write it the way he did. Not to give it away but it's not your typical ending I was expecting and I loved it!
Narration: Christopher Buehlman did a fantastic job of narration. It reminded me of Neil Gaiman narrating his own books. I bet he had in his mind exactly what each charactered sounded like. They are all unique and interesting characters which the accents and nuances which made this book an joy to listen to.
Overall this is a vampire book that paints 1970s New York with unique and real characters with a riveting story and plot and has brave ending that caught me off guard. Its a fantastic listen!
Absolutely loved it! Sad it was over!
