Now an Amazon Original series

Winner of the Hugo Award

"The single most resonant and carefully imagined book of Dick's career." --New York Times

It's America in 1962. Slavery is legal once again. The few Jews who still survive hide under assumed names. In San Francisco, the I Ching is as common as the Yellow Pages. All because some twenty years earlier the United States lost a war - and is now occupied by Nazi Germany and Japan.

This harrowing, Hugo Award-winning novel is the work that established Philip K. Dick as an innovator in science fiction while breaking the barrier between science fiction and the serious novel of ideas. In it, Dick offers a haunting vision of history as a nightmare from which it may just be possible to wake.

It is nothing like the netflix show. which is excellent. iam glad it was different it was so worth listening too. The Oracle plays a bigger role in the book.

It was an excellent book

I don’t understand the ending though, is it a fourth wall break or something? Makes no sense to me.

Amazing book, amazing voice acting and accents.

Fantastic narration, but I found the narrative thread easy to lose. Too many subplots I didn't care about at all, and a lot of dialogue was simply bad.

Maybe I just didn't get it, but overall, not Dick's strongest work.

Not Dick's best

A compelling but nothing like the Amazon series. A few crossover characters but little else.

Nothing like the tv series.

This novel was a great read… I know it’s going to seem strange given my comments moving forward… I throughly enjoyed reading MITHC but I have to admit there were numerous plots that were left unresolved. The obvious language… discriminatory at points was triggering. I guess this was the point to shock and put (us) the reader into this world. But I was hoping the final 2 chapters would clean up the obvious plots of central characters but it didn’t. I feel like the author could’ve written possibly 2 more chapters to end with 17 to clean up everything. Yes, as a reader the plot openness and unresolved leave (us) the reader with our imagination running wild. Not to mention, there is the MITHC series still airing on Prime video. With that being said, I still enjoyed this novel and I give it 5 stars.

A great read… but many plots left unresolved…

it's a classic so I can't really say anything that hasn't been said before. First experience with Philip K. Dick and his writing of the female characters is a bit cringey.

Really didn't like the performance. I'm always a bit weirded out when narrators do accents for ethnic characters because unless they are perfectly done it comes off tasteless. We know that the Japanese characters are Japanese doing an accent for all their dialogue doesn't add anything in my opinion. His voices for the female characters are poorly done, stereotyped, and exaggerated. Juliana sounds ridiculous and airheaded and it makes her really hard to take seriously.

Cool story, disliked the narrator

Much like other offerings from Philip K. Dick, ‘Man in the High Castle’ is heavy on poetic philosophy set in a fascinating world. Unfortunately, Dick once again sacrifices story by under-utilizing the rich characters and settings to serve existential philosophical discussion.

If you like history, alternate-history fiction, sci-fi, or philosophy, you’ll enjoy this book. But be warned, it doesn’t score high on emotion or thrills. If you like Star Wars, this is not your cup of tea. If you like Star Trek, welcome.

A Philosophical Foray into an Under-utilized World

The story is awesome, quite different from the Amazon series so well worth considering. The book is well narrated except when it comes to Juliana's voice; it was hard to imagine the character when the narrator tried to sound like a woman. Otherwise, a great title.

Great book but some character voices are iffy

Very very painful to listen to. Accents are 1) wrong and 2) grossly exaggerated. Terrible performance. Could not finish.

The show has a lot more detail and connection between each story but without listening to the book I would not have put some connection together when watching the show. To get the whole picture you need to entertain both. I hated the ending of the book.

Great idea but needs more detail.
