NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Sam and Sadie—two college friends, often in love, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality. It is a love story, but not one you have heard before.

"Delightful and absorbing." —
The New York Times • "Utterly brilliant." —John Green

One of the New York Times’s 100 Best Books of the 21st Century • One of the Best Books of the Year: The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, TIME, GoodReads, Oprah Daily

From the best-selling author of The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry: On a bitter-cold day, in the December of his junior year at Harvard, Sam Masur exits a subway car and sees, amid the hordes of people waiting on the platform, Sadie Green. He calls her name. For a moment, she pretends she hasn’t heard him, but then, she turns, and a game begins: a legendary collaboration that will launch them to stardom.

These friends, intimates since childhood, borrow money, beg favors, and, before even graduating college, they have created their first blockbuster, Ichigo. Overnight, the world is theirs. Not even twenty-five years old, Sam and Sadie are brilliant, successful, and rich, but these qualities won’t protect them from their own creative ambitions or the betrayals of their hearts.

Spanning thirty years, from Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Venice Beach, California, and lands in between and far beyond, Gabrielle Zevin’s Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow examines the multifarious nature of identity, disability, failure, the redemptive possibilities in play, and above all, our need to connect: to be loved and to love.

"Delightful and absorbing...Zevin burns precisely zero calories arguing that game designers are creative artists of the highest order. Instead, she accepts that as a given, and wisely so, for the best of them plainly are...Expansive and entertaining...Dozens of Literary Gamers will cherish the world she’s lovingly conjured. Meanwhile, everyone else will wonder what took them so long to recognize in video games the beauty and drama and pain of human creation."—Tom Bissell, The New York Times

"A tour de force... A moving demonstration of the blended power of fiction and gaming....Zevin describes herself as 'a lifelong gamer.' That level of experience could very well have produced a story of hermetically sealed nostalgia impenetrable to anyone who doesn’t still own a copy of 'Space Invaders.' But instead, she’s written a novel that draws any curious reader into the pioneering days of a vast entertainment industry too often scorned by bookworms. And with the depth and sensitivity of a fine fiction writer, she argues for the abiding appeal of the flickering screen."—Ron Charles, The Washington Post

“Whatever its subject, when a novel is powerful enough, it transports us readers deep into worlds not our own. That's true of Moby Dick, and it's certainly true of Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, which renders the process of designing a great video game as enthralling as the pursuit of that great white whale….There are…smart ruminations here about cultural appropriation, given that the game, Ichigo, is inspired by Japanese artist Hokusai's famous painting The Great Wave at Kanagawa….It's a big, beautifully written novel about an underexplored topic, that succeeds in being both serious art and immersive entertainment.”—Maureen Corrigan, NPR’s Fresh Air

Story was well done and the narration was alright. not my usual genre but a good listen all around.

Good book. worth the listen

I feel like this book was written for me. That’s not some thing I say about most books. Particularly anything written in this century, because I don’t feel like it would be true. I was born in 1977, the same year as the author, And I too spent countless hours playing games like King’s Quest IV and the Colonel’s Bequest. It took me a little while to get into the park, it always does for me, so that’s nothing to judge it by, but once I was into it, my emotions hung on every word, whether I was laughing, raging, or sobbing uncontrollably, which I’m doing right now. this is such a powerful work and it captures so much of what it means to be alive and to be human. The narrator was perfect. They both were. Read the hard copy, and listen as well… and then, maybe go play The Oregon Trail for awhile.

An actual modern classic.

This story is amazing. The first part of the book may seem slow but it sucks you in and keeps you there until the end.

Amazing

This book was so well done, beautifully written characters, and the way the plot is laid out is amazing. Not a typical romantic novel and I loved it for that, as well as many other reasons!

Wish I could read again Tomorrow

You don’t have to be a fan of video games to relate to this novel. The metaphors are abundant and the book is so well written. I couldn’t stop listening. An instant classic.

Beautiful story, incredible narration

Ugh. This whole book is PERFECTION. The narrators voices couldn’t have been better. I never ever wanted to this end. This is hands down the best audiobook, and possibly one of the best books in general - I’ve ever read.

A heartbreaking, unforgettable love story that spans decades.

I was very moved by this story. The characters felt honest and real. The pain authentic. The love genuine. It’s was set in a time I know well. That made it special for me.

The ending was not dramatic or Hollywood it felt like how it could happen in the real world.

It’s definitely a read/listen.

Such a lovely story

Wonderful. Feelings and feelings and feelings. I won’t say emotional journey; the characters age inconsistently from 12 to 37, with flashbacks and backfill throughout. They are self centred and driven and willing to lie to themselves, and occasionally beautiful and true. Believable, human, and I find myself caught up in the flow of feelings that are so credible and so obvious and beautifully rendered. Zevin knows this part of living, like a quiet wave sweeping you slowly from the beach. One character I found too good to be true, and producers made the odd choice to switch narrators partway through, and then back again. The overall narration lacks clear identity—I’m occasionally lost as to who is speaking—but not a single word missed, not a single feeling lost.

Emotionally Charged and Engaging

As someone who prefers fiction with elements of the uncanny, this story was a little too mundane for me. But if you like fiction that's grounded firmly in reality, then it probably doesn't get much better than this. The characters are well-written and developed, and the story moves along at a good pace, with constant developments that are interesting and thought-provoking. I cried (in public!) by the end, so it was certainly impactful. I guess I would have just liked it if the worlds of video games and reality had bled into each other somehow, or if the line between them had become blurred.

The narration didn't do much for me. It felt flat, almost like they had just pasted the novel into a text-to-speech program. But it wasn't enough to turn me away, so I suppose it could have been worse.

Well-written and well-paced realistic fiction
