Watch My Back is the story of one man's search for courage. This is the story of an ordinary man who faced his fears and took himself from bedsit to best seller but very nearly got killed on the way. Geoff Thompson is now the author of over 30 books, a stage play and a BAFTA-winning short film. This book is now a major motion picture: Clubbed.

The most gripping non-fiction book I've read

The descriptions of fights are visceral and the narration brings the story to life like nothing else (6 star narration, if I could). I am stranger to violence, yet no stranger to fear – and there's lots and lots of fear present, as the author reveals his mindset in and before the altercations. The overarching mental battle and the final liberation is deeply moving.

On a more practical note, each chapter has it's own dramatic arc and doesn't require a lot of context, which suites the book well for occasional reading over a long period of time. I would recommend this book to anyone that has felt the need to stand up for themselves, someone or something at least once in their life.
