In this second part, we consider whether the characteristics of consciousness, rationality and awareness in animals is what gives them a right to life, or whether sentiency alone is sufficient. We also discuss if promoting animal welfare is a waste of time and resources, and if the 'rights' approach is more coherent and likely to produce results.
