À propos de cet audio
“Balance – from the physics classroom to the coronavirus debate”This issue is all about balance – the equilibrium that stabilizes us physically, mentally, and socially. We begin with a brief excursion into physics and share a practical approach that consists of flexibility and care – the “Care & Drive Model.”
Finally, we turn to current issues such as the pandemic and show how balance is crucial there too.
⚖ What is balance? – a look back at physics class- Everyone remembers: stable balance means a steady support, with minimal disturbances
– unstable balance tips over even with a slight impulse.
This distinction helps: How stable do you feel – and what makes you waver?
1. Our deepest need: balance or “homeostasis”
Imbalance gives rise to needs. Only by striving for balance can we regain our inner equilibrium.
Drive reduction theory explains that feelings such as hunger or thirst create a state of tension (drive) that must be reduced in order to achieve inner peace (homeostasis).
Simply Psychology
Research on homeostasis shows that our bodies and minds constantly regulate temperature, blood sugar, and stress levels—similar to a thermostat that keeps everything stable. When blood sugar drops, for example, we feel tired—recharging brings us back into balance.

2. Care & Drive—the dynamic balance
The Care & Drive model describes two complementary forces within us:
Care – the preserving, protective pole that provides calm, security, and stability.
Drive – the moving pole that demands change, growth, and action.
Both components work together – never in isolation.
