Dr. James Freeman, a distinguished expert from Johnson C Smith University, who also works specializing in kinship care in child welfare. We also give honor and recognition to a powerful voice for change in the person of Aysha E. Schomburg, J.D., who is the associate commissioner in the Children’s Bureau in the Administration on Children, Youth and Families, located within the Administration for Children and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Aysha Schomburg joined the Biden Administration in March 2021 after serving as the senior administrator for program oversight for New York City’s Administration for Children’s Services. Additionally, we want to recognize Mr. Sixto Cancel for his remarkable work on behalf of children in care. His amazing work seeks to give voice to the thousands of youth who would otherwise not be heard. Mr. Cancel is a nationally recognized leader driving systems change in child welfare, working across tech, service delivery, research and data, and state and federal policy to improve outcomes for youth and families.
