    May 7 2025

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 564 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Brian has serious GAS, JHS release the Notadümblë, and the spray bottle returns...

Brian has extreme GAS for the new "Uncle Brad" Paisley telecaster from Fender and he needs to find a way to purchase it immediately. His trading terms may be biased in his favor. Richard talks about a live band he saw that had an unusual technique and the lessons he learned.

Richard has seen a remarkable music film and discusses it while Brian and Blake make some impressions. Brian explains the alternative Nashville in Indiana and Richard makes a localized joke that sinks flat. Brian ponders how he is going to make it through a mammoth biker gig.

JHS have released a follow up DIY kit to their hugely successful Nötaklön and the guys chat about it and wonder whats going on under the hood. Richard fantasizes about goat powered chariots and Brian confesses he is not alone. Brian gives us a little insight into the process behind bringing a signature pedal to life.

Tony Ionian, Bizarre finger pain, Dribbler pedal, Famous guitars, Cursed guitar pedals, Squier offsets...it’s all in this week’s Chasing Tone!

    Apr 30 2025

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 563 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Is the price of new musical gear about to go up...again?

The gang is back together and start off with a look at some pasta based podcast that Blake is working on that involves Charles Manson, Hank Williams, and zero bolognaise sauce. Richard has been challenged to talk more about tone and fails instantly.

Reverb has been sold and the guys talk about it and the second hand gear market which may become a little hotter in the heat of the new trade tariffs. Will we see a shift in the gear world as a result? Brian has a new course coming out and tells us all about it.

Blake saw a new film and tries in vain to convince Brian to watch it because it has an amazing soundtrack. Brian has an idea for a manual for humanity and has become addicted to an amplifier.

  • 562 - Chasing Tone Rewound - Chris Shiflett of the Foo Fighters!
    Apr 23 2025

Every now and then we like to Rewind to one of our favorite episodes, normally when one of us is too ill to record or has gone on vacation. At least one of those things has happened this week so we bring you one of our all time favorite episodes...

Brian, Blake, and Richard were joined by a special guest for this episode of Chasing Tone Rewound - Chris Shiflett of the Foo Fighters...

We have an extra special guest this week and Brian may or may not fanboy a little bit. It is of course Chris Shiflett who is a monster player with a huge back catalogue of work - including playing in one of Brian's favorite bands, the Foo Fighters. Chris has some very cool new music coming out and also has his own podcast, Walking The Floor, and we talk about some of his escapades including a rare first hand peek into international tour bus life.

Chris is a super nice dude, and his stories are absolutely fascinating. The guys talk about how Blake first discovered his music. They also go deep into Chris' love of classic rock and roll, and country music, and the influences that drove him to explore country based rock further. The guys then go right back to Chris' roots and his teenage years and find out all about his earliest tastes and influences and his signature Fender guitar. Conversation turns to his different rigs and then pedals...Brian may have found his new happy place amongst all this Foo tinged pedal talk.

Chris has an idea for a custom delay pedal, and gives the guys an entertaining demonstration, and it just so happens Brian knows a guy. As well as being a fantastic player and all round legend, Chris loves football, sorry "soccer", and Richard and he share a love for the same football team so speak in what Blake and Brian can only describe as a completely foreign language. Brian's head spins, and he has fallen in love with one of Chris' solo songs "Born & Raised" so plays a little clip which instantly wins Blake over too. Right at the end Chris gives us some absolute golden insights into his songwriting process which is worth the admission fee itself.

This is a special episode and the team hope you enjoy it and would like to say a huge thanks to Chris for coming on - go check out his new music!

There may be a swear or two in this but heck - that's rock and roll baby!

Van Life, Thierry Henry, The Stone Roses, Glaser mods, Panning Tremelo, Custom Chris Shiflett Delay pedal, Mopey minor keys...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

Check out Chris Shiflett's music here and his Podcast Here and look for him on TikTok, kids!

  • 561 - We got roads with Ira Dean and get the lowdown on writing, recording, and touring from a Nashville legend
    Apr 16 2025

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 561 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - We got roads with Ira Dean and get the lowdown on writing, recording, and touring from a Nashville legend

We're stoked to have the uber-talented Ira Dean join us today and start off with a story about how he and Brian managed not to see each other at the recent Brooks and Dunn gig. Ira has been a huge part of the country music scene for the last quarter of a century and he has played with some of the all-time greats so gives us a very candid, authentic look at life as a touring musician and a top songwriter.

Ira talks us through his early days before he became a professional musician with some hilarious anecdotes before talking us through his breakthrough into the country music scene. He tells us about the formation of Trick Pony and some of the influential people that helped him get on the way. Richard has a foolish plan.

Blake asks Ira about working with "The Nuge" and the stories do not disappoint and include a flaming middle finger. Brian gets deep into the process of writing hit songs and uncovers Ira's process. Richard talks about his love for Ira's take on Tele Man and we get deep into the recording and tracking.

This is a great episode for anyone interested in the touring life, songwriting, and country music in general and we are super grateful for Ira's time.

The Electric Iguanas, Johnny Cash, B.U.B.S., Bob Dylan, Traveling Wheelbarrows...it’s all in this week’s Chasing Tone!

    Apr 9 2025

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 560 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Brian Wampler has one important tip for Fuzz pedals and what is your biggest ever music regret?

The guys start off by looking at musical regrets and in particular one that involves Jim Morrison which Blake definitely wanted to hear about. There are some unexpected confessions and Brian drops a bombshell when discussing his favorite artist of all time.

Brian saw Brooks and Dunn recently and there was an incident that he witnessed and both he and Blake educate Richard on their music. Richard made a noobie mistake and fesses up while Brian dreams of giant drones. Another musical retailer has seemingly gone into administration and the guys analyze a worrying trend.

JHS have released software plugins and the guys discuss it, Tone King released a new pedal / amp platform and Richard is a big fan, and Ernie Ball made a pretty looking Wah pedal. Finally, Brian has a new business idea...

Hendrix, Boot Scooting, The Wampler Shuttle, Tone King, Costco, Web Shredding...it’s all in this week’s Chasing Tone!

  • 559 - Brian's wife pranks him and this legendary music institution is no more?
    Apr 2 2025

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 559 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Brian's wife pranks him and this legendary music institution is no more?

Richard had some fun with his band this weekend which resulted in some horn related activity that made him smile muchly. What was your favorite 1980's theme tune? The guys discuss this, Brian's teenage sobriety, and finger pain. Richard also found a musical relic in an old email account and realized he had been hard on himself.

Blake has a meltdown and talks about his early recordings. A music institution has seemingly disappeared and the guys look into it. Brian has said something that set a chain of events in motion with both positive and negative results. Brian offers some sage advice to the British King of Fuzz.

We recorded on April 1st and we reflect on some of the hilarious (and not so hilarious) jokes on the interwebs. Meanwhile Brian's wife played a joke on him and he tells us all about it. It was Eric Clapton's 80th birthday and the guys discuss a somewhat controversial figure in the guitar world.

Arpeggiated harmonic thingamajigs, Tyler Childers, Thorpy's blowing stuff up, Windows '92, Mandate, Taffee ...it’s all in this week’s Chasing Tone!
