  • Ghosted by a Rockstar. Haunted by his Music: An Audio Essay on Love, Loss, and Live Music
    Jul 30 2025

I matched with the frontman of a band I used to sing my heart out to, one of our most prolific songwriters. A brief romance unfolded, then ended without a single word. Here’s what I learned about the duality of musicians and the heartbreak of mistaking his lyrics for the person I thought he was.

    **********************************************************************************

Ghosting isn’t new, but being ghosted by one of our generation’s most well-known songwriters, the frontman of a band I used to sing my heart out to, is.

I’m Kyle Lamont, a live music journalist and critic and after weeks of thoughtful messages and a couple of dates with a man known for his lyrical courage, I believed that if it ended, it would at least end with some words. It didn’t.

I was wrecked. Baffled. And most of all, disappointed by the fact that I had lost sight of something so fundamental: the person and the performer are not the same.

Worse, his music, a formative part of my life, now haunts me. Torch songs I loved are now hollow, a reminder of what once was and what could have been.

I’ve spent years traveling to music venues across the country, documenting stories from venue owners, bands, and fans to show the interconnectedness of travel and live music. This heartbreaking experience has shown me how love and loss are part of concert culture too.

"Ghosted by a Rockstar. Haunted by His Music" blends personal essay and music criticism, offering a window into my work as a relentlessly curious and passionate concert journalist.

Live music is empathetic. So is my storytelling. Thank you for being here. Thank you for hearing me.

  • Something New Is Coming… A Video Teaser Inside!
    Jul 8 2025

This isn’t a podcast made from a couch or behind a desk. It’s recorded on the road, under glowing marquees, inside green rooms, and at the venue itself where the real stories of live music unfold. I’m inside it and you’re right there with me.

There’s crying, absurd chaos, and pure elation. It’s cinematic, intimate, and driven by theme and place. It's like the immersive reporting of NPR, fused with the backstage intimacy and stylish storytelling of an HBO rockumentary.

You’ll hear stories from iconic venues, DIY warehouses, and analog spaces far off the map. I’ve recorded in snowstorms, on tour buses, at festivals, from the front row of songwriting rounds, and in parking lots with a finger in the air, searching for a miracle ticket.

And we’re just getting started. We’re about to launch a brand new VIDEO CHAT SHOW. So make sure to subscribe on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube, and sign up for my newsletter here to get updates and behind the scenes stories: Concert Cast

  • Flagstaff, AZ: A Mystical Music Town
    Oct 23 2024

When Kyle Lamont, host of Concert Cast, makes a quick stop in Flagstaff, AZ, along Route 66, a one-night stay turns into a month-long musical adventure.

Join me on a backstage tour of the historic Orpheum Theatre, where I uncover wild tales from its storied past—like the unforgettable night Umphrey’s McGee rocked so hard they blew out the lights. Just a block away, the legendary Hotel Monte Vista becomes my home base (and yes, they offer discounted long-term rates).

During my stay in the Michael Stipe and Bing Crosby rooms, I connect with Lindsay, a local artist and front desk clerk, who spills captivating stories about visiting music legends and spine-tingling ghost encounters, especially from the infamous Meat Man room.

When it’s time to hit the road, I leave with a deeper sonic kinship to this mystical town and chances are, after listening and maybe even visiting Flagstaff yourself, you might feel the same.

  • A "Wild" Band Interview with 76th Street
    Oct 4 2024

"Wild" is a 6-song musical journey featuring everything from a heart-pounding love song dedicated to Nashville's hottest queer bar to what might be the most joyful and liberating break-up song you'll ever hear. The album peaks with a homage to gay musicians who inspired the band, evolving into its own queer anthem guaranteed to get you dancing and leave you humming, "I think that I just got more gay."

Kyle's bond with the band dates back to 2021 when she chronicled the sonic soul sisters' Nashville debut in a rockumentary podcast, capturing the besties as they performed, rehearsed, and prepped for shows. This follow-up video podcast offers a glimpse into the band's musical evolution as both artists and humans. While their lyrics now embrace same-sex pronouns, 76th Street's core message remains unwavering: strength, independence, and radical self-love. Their friendship has also evolved, now bearing a new title: platonic wives!

  • Let's Go Festival: Fashion at Under the Oaks, Maine Feat. Lena Kendall
    Aug 28 2024

Hi, I'm Kyle Lamont, your host and wow, I had the incredible opportunity to spend time with Lena, the lead singer of GoldenOak, in her cozy she-shed as she prepared for her headlining performance at the Under the Oaks Music Festival in Western Maine. Known for her unique and stylish outfits, Lena walked me through her pre-show routine, sharing intimate details of how her fashion choices intertwine with her music. But it wasn't all serious - we had laugh-out-loud moments too, even roasting band members' outfits.

The experience was part of a two-day camping festival where I wandered through the woods on a mushroom foraging adventure along the Sandy River and joined fellow festival-goers for a pancake breakfast served by the band. Throughout the episode, I leaned into my curiosity about how fashion, music, and location influence each other, bringing in voices from fans who shared their thoughts on this fascinating interplay.

I invite you to push play on "Let's Go Festival," a podcast series on ConcertCast.live that transports you to community-focused music events, offering an intimate look at the intersection of music and culture.

  • Analog Music Venue in Athens, Georgia called Happy Top
    Jul 29 2024

Push play for a tour of Happy Top, a one-of-a-kind B&B in Athens, Georgia that's also an analog performance space and recording studio. You'll hear the origin story, the approach to the vintage decoration and design (there's a piano in every room. Literally.), and how owner T.S. Woodward created a signal flow speaker system, giving each room a different audio flavor. Plus, an authentic perspective on why Athens has such a special music scene.

I'm Kyle Lamont, founder and host of Concert Cast, a rockumentary podcast network. Our series "In the Pocket" explores independently owned venues where music and community come together in surprising places. We showcase these unique spots, often at risk due to gentrification, by telling their stories and showing how they shape concert culture.

T.S Woodward wishes to say a very special thank you to Michael Smith-Lanzar (his next door neighbor from 2019-2022 [but resident there since 2014]) who was the first person he met on Bryan St, told him all about the history of Happy Top, helped to negotiate with the city the sewer/water infrastructure & who is an indefatigable activist for human rights.
