Episode 6: Temi gets malaria and we talk about race (Misconceptions about Africa pt. 3/3)

  • Résumé

  • In our 3rd and final episode in this small series on misconceptions, we dive into a few more common misconceptions we’ve heard about Africa and our lives in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, including:

    • Infrastructure: clean running water, electricity, roads, etc.

    • Do you feel safe there?

    • Malaria is scary!

    • Can you get good healthcare?

Note: Liz mentioned some fuzzy statistics about twins in Africa during this episode. Here is the real information:

    • 41% of the world's twins come from Africa while only 13% of the world's entire population is in Africa

    • 20 of every 1,000 births are twins (compared to 12 of 1,000 in Europe and 7 of 1,000 in of Asia).
