Session 181: Cesarean Rehabilitation Deserves A Better Approach

Jacqueline Camley has been a Certified Athletic Therapist since 2012, with a degree from Sheridan College, Ontario, and an MSc in Kinesiology and applied Physiology, specializing in Athletic Training from the University of Florida.

We sit down and discuss the gaps in rehabilitation in a major surgery that has been overlooked for far too long.

Since 2015, she has been a senior lecturer in the Athletic Therapy program at Concordia University and continues to be an active practitioner in both the field and clinical disciplines. In September 2025, she embarked on a new journey, starting her PhD in Health and Exercise Science at Concordia University, with a focus on cesarean section recovery and return to physical activity.

Committed to creating an inclusive environment with her clients, students and within her PhD work, Jacqueline’s approach centers on understanding the interconnectedness of the body and environment. She believes that education lays the foundation for change.

Dennis Coonan is the Manager of the Sports Medicine Center at Children's Hospital Colorado in Aurora, CO. We discuss the role of 80 Athletic Trainers within an organization and how establishing value elicits purpose.

Dennis Coonan, MSE, LAT, ATC, brings over 25 years of athletic training experience to his role as Manager of the Sports Medicine Center at Children’s Hospital Colorado. In this capacity, he directs daily operations, long-range program development, and the professional growth of a team of more than 75 athletic trainers and sports dietitians. Throughout his career, Dennis has consistently advanced patient care and staff development, from launching electronic medical record systems and negotiating equity pay initiatives to mentoring young professionals entering the field. His career path spans high schools, collegiate athletics, and physician practices, with leadership roles at the University of Kansas, University of the Pacific, Florida International University, and Miami Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute. A recognized thought leader, Dennis has presented at local, regional, and national conferences on topics ranging from risky throwing mechanics in youth athletes, emergency scenarios, catastrophic injury management, and return-to-sport planning. He is an active member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, serving on both the Convention Program Committee and as the District 7 Chair for ATs Care. Dennis completed his undergraduate studies at Iowa State University and graduate work at the University of Kansas. He and his wife Chris along with daughter Callie currently reside in Castle Rock, CO.

Session 177 (World Congress - Dublin): Structural and Cultural Humility: A Concept and A Mindset

Guests: Michael Cole and Tyrone Cassius

Why do I believe what I believe? And, what do I do with what I believe? A critically reflective and meaningfully impactful discussion on the hidden curriculum of humanity within the Athletic Training and Therapy space.

Michael Cole (he/they) graduated in 2001 as a Sports & Exercise Therapist and maintains a part-time private clinical practice in the UK, having previously worked in elite and grassroots sport, including with Team GB Swimming and in professional football. Previously Director and Chair of The Society of Sports Therapists, Michael currently works as a Board Trustee at NTDi, an industry consultant, and as the Principal Teaching Fellow in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion for the Undergraduate Primary Care Education Unit at Imperial College London. With over twenty years' experience, Michael has been awarded both a Principal Teaching Fellowship (PFHEA) and a National Teaching Fellowship (NTFS) and served multiple roles including as a BSc Sports Therapy course leader, an anti-racist pedagogy trainer, an external examiner and a national verifier. As part of his ongoing PhD research, Michael has authored several publications and founded the 'Cultural and Structural Humility in Europe Working Group' (CaSHEW). Tyrone Cassius has spent the last 12 years, since graduating with a degree in Sports Therapy, immersing himself in the health & fitness industry, gaining experience pitch-side, in clinical case management and consultancy.

His therapy work spans industries including football, theatre and private practice and he currently teaches at college and university level.

As one of the Directors of the Society of Sports Therapists, he is involved in the structuring and governance of the profession. He chairs the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion team and works to highlight and implement many solutions to cultural and structural issues.

Research includes the looking into the importance of cultural & structural humility within sport & exercise medicine and general healthcare.
