 Two mysterious men, Jim and Will Thompson, arrive in Dodge City claiming to be cattle traders. Marshal Matt Dillon's suspicions are raised by their unusual behavior, which only deepens when he discovers they're associated with Houston Jack, a known outlaw. After a local drunk named Sammy recognizes and confronts the brothers, leading to his death, things escalate into a planned bank robbery. While Dillon and Chester are distracted chasing Houston Jack, the brothers attempt to rob the bank using banker Clen Bates as a hostage. In the ensuing confrontation, Dillon kills Houston Jack but the Thompson brothers escape. The episode concludes with Dillon's realization that the brothers were actually the infamous outlaws Frank and Jesse James. The story effectively combines elements of deception, justice, and the challenges of maintaining law and order in the Old West, all hallmarks of classic Gunsmoke storytelling.
