  • Solving Africa’s Water Crisis with IoT
    May 22 2024

You can find stories of the positive impacts of enhanced connectivity anywhere.

The work of eWATERservices — installing safe, affordable and accessible water systems in communities across sub-Saharan Africa — is a great example of IoT’s power to meaningfully shape people’s lives.

eWATERservices Chief Operations Officer James Kay talks about the immense challenges some people face every day to get what many typically take for granted: clean water. James dives into:

    • Why the traditional non-governmental organization (NGO) model of providing water to communities in need doesn’t work
    • How eWATERservices overcame hardware design issues to bring clean, safe water to sub-Saharan Africa
    • The biggest obstacle to scaling eWATERservices and how the carbon credit model could uproot it

Listen to this episode to learn about how Eseye partnered with eWATERservices to give sub-Saharan African villages water they can rely on and why connectivity can often be the difference between life and death.

  • 3 IoT Predictions for 2024 & Beyond
    Mar 13 2024

While 2023 was all about the device for the IoT industry, 2024 is already shaping up to emphasize the device even more than before.

The overarching theme of Eseye’s predictions for 2023 was how mobile network operators (MNOs) were finally going to cede control of IoT connectivity to enterprises. The predictions didn’t quite play out as expected, but they were fairly accurate:

    1. The MNO lock was finally broken, but the driver was the eSim rather than the hyperscaler threat.
    2. There’s more interest in roaming between private and public networks, but adoption is a little slower than anticipated.
    3. People are adopting multi-radio access type (RAT) technology — as part of operator-agnostic connectivity, which is Eseye’s DNA — though not necessarily in the same device. The next step is putting them together.
    4. Consumer-enterprise IoT convergence is happening, as evidenced by home-based EV chargers, home security, remote patient monitoring, rising interest in IoT within elderly care, and the sheer proliferation of devices.

2023 was meant to be the year of the device, but its importance in IoT has been underestimated. Consider SmartConnect increasing connectivity from 93 to 99 percent for PharmaWatch with intelligence at the edge.

On balance, the mid-year reflection proved the main trend to be accurate: MNOs did lose power over IoT.

Based on the theme of the device at the center, Eseye makes three big predictions for 2024:

    1. Smart connectivity will securely and reliably link intelligence from the device to the cloud.
    2. Connectivity will provide applications with feedback to make intelligent decisions about whether to process data on the cloud or on the device.
    3. With the rise of AI, IoT business use cases will focus more on trust, data protection, and regulatory compliance.

Listen to the podcast to learn about how 2024 will be the year of the IoT intelligent edge.

  • How Amazon is Opening Doors on a Global Scale
    Feb 21 2024

When you’re delivering billions of packages a year and you want to make sure they arrive on time, device connectivity and availability are mission-critical.

To this end, Amazon is on a mission to ensure that none of its customers is ever missing a package or parcel — or awaiting a late one. Introducing Amazon Key for Business: a smart fob that enables drivers to easily access multi-unit buildings and gated communities to deliver Amazon orders.

The 41st episode of the IoT Leaders Podcast features Amazon Key for Business software engineering manager and leader Vijayakrishnan Nagarajan. Vijay talks about:

    ·       Amazon’s ongoing expansion — currently in eight countries across three continents — and how the company will gain additional market share.

    ·       The importance of operational excellence in solving device connectivity and availability.

    ·       Why over-the-air (OTA) capabilities and infrastructure matter to a company’s long-term success.

Tune in to hear how Amazon Key’s partnership with Eseye led to improved device availability and how Amazon continues its quest for even more growth.
