There, Ledecky, now 28, shattered expectations by securing her first world record in the 800-meter freestyle in nine years and then clinching one of the “hardest-fought victories” of her career. World champion Daniel Wiffen delivered a pointed critique of Florida’s so-called “supergroup” of distance swimmers, which includes Ledecky, saying in an interview picked up by Essentially Sports that the gathering of so much superstar talent “won’t last” due to potential personality clashes. Wiffen insisted he wants no part of what he calls a risky arrangement, but acknowledged the “insane” concentration of Olympic and world champions training together.
