  • #111 A Deep Dive into Qualified Immunity and the Supreme Court Filing of LaToya Benton’s Case for Xzavier Hill with Attorney E. Paige White
    Sep 3 2025

Join us next week on Life After the Impact as we sit down with seasoned attorney Elizabeth Paige, founder of EPW Law PLLC, to explore the high-stakes legal battle surrounding LaToya Benton’s case for her son, Xzavier Hill. Now making its way to the Supreme Court, this case challenges critical legal issues, including qualified immunity, and the potential ramifications for law enforcement accountability.

Elizabeth brings over 15 years of experience in civil rights litigation, employment law, and criminal defense. Known for her work on high-profile cases, she will provide invaluable insight into the doctrine of qualified immunity—how it works, why it's so controversial, and what it could mean for future cases involving police misconduct.

The case for Xzavier Hill, brought by his mother LaToya Benton, seeks to challenge qualified immunity, which shields law enforcement officers and government officials from personal liability in certain circumstances. Elizabeth will break down the complexities of this doctrine, its impact on individual rights, and how this case could set a precedent for future legal battles in the fight for justice and accountability.

Whether you're a legal professional, a civil rights advocate, or simply someone looking to better understand these pressing legal issues, this episode will provide expert insight into one of the most significant legal battles of our time.

  • #110 Bringing Our Fight to the Supreme Court: Justice for Xzavier Hill
    Sep 3 2025

Join us tonight to learn the latest updates in the fight for Justice for Xzavier Hill. LaToya Benton is the mother of Xzavier Hill and the co-founder of Life After the Impact, a national advocacy organization that uplifts and supports families affected by police violence and state-sanctioned injustice. After the devastating loss of her only child Xzavier Hill at the hands of law enforcement, LaToya made the courageous decision to seek justice on her own—filing a pro se federal civil rights case. Though the case was denied, her determination has only grown stronger. She is now preparing to take her fight all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States. LaToya is currently pursuing her degree in Legal Studies at the University of Baltimore, with the goal of entering law school and becoming a legal advocate not just for her own family, but for countless others who are forced to battle injustice without adequate support. She believes that no one should have to choose between grieving their loved one and fighting for accountability**. As part of her continued advocacy, LaToya has organized and led town hall discussions bringing together impacted families, community leaders, and legal experts to confront systemic failures and push for real change. Her work has helped elevate public awareness, build solidarity, and inspire action. Through Life After the Impact, public speaking, grassroots organizing, and her own legal education, LaToya is turning pain into purpose ensuring that her son Xzavier’s legacy lives on through the pursuit of justice, reform, and hope.

  • Life After the Impact: #109: SEEKING JUSTICE - The Killing of Marchello "Chello" Woodard
    Aug 13 2025

On July 2, 2025, in Erie, PA, Marchello Woodard — a father, son, and beloved friend — was allegedly shot and killed by a state parole agent. The very person entrusted with guiding and supporting him instead took his life. Marchello was unarmed and posed no immediate threat. He was just two weeks away from completing a successful and compliant parole.

According to witnesses, Marchello had just dropped his girlfriend off at her home when he was approached. Within 60 seconds, he was shot three times in the chest.

This Tuesday, we sit down with community members Deonte Cooley and Malcolm Pullium to talk about Chello’s life, the pain left in the aftermath, and the urgent call for transparency, accountability, and justice.

Together, we ask the hard questions:

Did the parole agent follow proper protocol? Was a false narrative crafted to justify deadly force? Are the videos and other critical evidence being fairly examined? Who is ensuring that this investigation is truly impartial?

There are growing concerns about how this case is being handled, and serious questions about leadership transparency at every level.

We firmly believe: no one can be safe until we are all safe — and until justice is served.

  • Life After the Impact #105: A Live Interview with Caitlin Holbrook
    Jul 2 2025

Join Life After the Impact on July 1st as we talk to an advocate for change, Caitlin Holbrook. Learn how you too can get involved to create change.

Caitlin Holbrook is a rising law student at Georgetown University Law School. Eight of her family members have been incarcerated, and her mother was the director of the juvenile halls in her hometown of Santa Barbara, California. Her life experiences informed Caitlin to be an ardent abolitionist. She attends law school (and does everything else) to be the best resource for the movement to end prisons and police.

Since May 2024, Caitlin has assisted in directly representing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She assists lawyers investigating institutions that confine and serve people with disabilities in D.C. At Georgetown Law, she co-founded the Georgetown Abolition Advocacy Project with her friends. The Project integrates abolitionism into legal education and connects law students to local and federal abolition organizations and movements. This summer, while being a law clerk, she is also spending her summer assisting her professor with his project of establishing a coop grocery store in the food desert in Ward 7. Before law school, she worked at DC Justice Lab, assisting attorneys on 23 grassroots bills and campaigns to transform D.C.’s systems of policing, prosecution, and punishment. Most of her work focused on the conditions of confinement in the D.C. jails and conditions of reentry. Caitlin got her BA in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a 2024 Justice John Paul Stevens public interest fellow.
