  • Reimagining Palestine Through Storytelling with Sobhi Khatib

    In this episode of Marginalized Notes, we speak with storyteller, activist, and human rights advocate Sobhi Khatib. Sobhi has a rich background in psychology and human rights, and lecutured courses on Activism, Social movements, diversity, and inclusion as well as other topics Wageningen University in Amersterdam. As co-founder of The Hummus Academy and a board member at 7amleh, Sobhi is deeply involved in connecting culture with activism and supporting digital awareness for activists. He is also a regional specialist at Het Actiefonds, where he supports global movements with training and resources for impactful change.

    In this episode, Sobhi reflects on his journey from childhood activism in Palestine to embracing storytelling as a powerful medium for advocacy for human rights in the western context. He shares his vision of using personal narratives to challenge established narratives and reimagine Palestine through joy and cultural pride.

  • Palestine, the Global South, and Non-Western Epistemologies with Arpan Roy

    In this episode of Marginalized Notes, we’re joined by Dr. Arpan Roy, a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient in Berlin. With a PhD in Anthropology from Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Roy shares his deep insights into difference, religion, and non-Western epistemologies, with a particular focus on Palestine and Jordan.

    Dr. Roy is the author of the upcoming book Relative Strangers: Romani Kinship and Palestinian Difference, set to be published in October 2024 by the University of Toronto Press. He’s also the co-editor of Naseej / نسيج, a multidisciplinary volume on plurality in Palestine, due out in 2025.

    In our conversation, we explore:

    What the Global South really means, why it’s often sidelined in research, and why that needs to change.

    The critical role social sciences play in understanding Palestine.
