History Inishowen is a new podcast series which will explore aspects of the rich history of the most Northerly part of Ireland.

This first series will focus on the Early Christian and Medieval Period of history as it relates to the Inishowen Peninsula, County Donegal, Ireland. Presented by local historian Neil McGrory, the first series features conversations with Max Adams, Colm O'Brien, Brian Lacey and Dáibhí O’Cróinín.

Local experts and those involved in community archaeology and heritage are also featured. There are conversations with John J. Hegarty from West Inishowen History and Heritage Society, Martin Hopkins from Cooley, Maura Harkin and Teish Doherty from the Colgan Heritage Committee and Sean Beattie from Culdaff and Cloncha Heritage Group.

There will also be a special episode with experts from National Monuments who will give practical advice regarding the protection of historical sites.

This second episode features renowned historians and archaeologists Max Adams and Colm O'Brien who based in Northumbria in the North East of England.

Max and Colm have a long association with Inishowen and were the driving force behind the important fieldwork and excavations of the Early Christian sites in North Inishowen.

Their work with the Bernician Studies Group and their role in the formation of Lands of Éogain have left a lasting legacy in the understanding of the archaeology and history of the peninsula.

In this episode Max and Colm return to the early Christian site at Cooley, which overlooks the town of Moville on the East Coast of Inishowen. There are clear view of Lough Foyle, Rathlin Island and the North Coast. They meet up with Martin Hopkins who introduced them to this site and they talk about their extensive work surveying and exciting with the Bernician Studies Group.

This series coincides with the launch of an updated website which gives an overview of some of the main historical sites in Inishowen.
